Are you wearing a slip under your dress?

MRS_Mikec, on January 12, 2014 at 4:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

When I went dress shopping they had me put on a slip but I did not buy one. I don't know how my dress will look without but regardless I wasn't paying $75 for the one David's wanted to sell me. I am curious how many of you are going to wear one? Or who is going without. Dress attached for your reference. Looking at it I don't feel like it will make a difference in I wear one of not.

Our dresses are similar, and I don't plan on wearing one. It's not needed, IMO.

I most likely will be just so I don't have to worry about tripping.

I had to wear one because you could see my underwear! I had it sewn into the dress. However, yours is satin so a slip is not necessary, but I would wear a thong in case a panty line would happen to appear somehow.

I'm wearing one because I don't want the fabric to rub my legs all day.

I was told to wear one since my wedding is in June and they suggested it to grab sweat instead of having my dress grab it... Smiley sad

I will have to! The last time I put my dress on I had some pretty colorful undies on and everyone in the bridal salon saw them! At least I know now that it i see-through!

I am wearing one so that the dress doesn't try to pull between my legs when I'm walking lol

I am wearing a shaping slip. My dress looked gorgeous on without it, but the shaping slip gave me the extra suck and tuck that i didnt even know i needed!

I'm wearing thigh to just-under-the -bra shapewear so my thighs don't rub and for sweat purposes. I think DB has everyone try on with slips, but go with the undergarments you feel are best for you

I wore a slip to make my dress more poofy at the bottom. I think it looked better with it but the only reason I got it was because my dress was like an inch too long. To hem it would have been $100, the slip was only $55 and it made the dress come up enough that it didn't drag anymore!

I bought a slip (ballgown style) to go under my dress because I honestly wanted it as full as possible, and I liked how it looked better than the one that DB originally had me try it on with (fit 'n flare). I really like how my dress looks with it, but my dress is also a ballgown. An A-line may or may not need one, depending on how full you want it. To be honest, could you go into DB and ask to try on the dress again without the slip, and see how you like it? Then you could probably go on eBay or Craigslist and get a used slip super cheap. There's a good possibility with the dress being as not poofy as it is, that it might try to flow between your legs as you walk without the slip.

Some dresses just have so many layers that it's not necessary. Mine has just 3 layers, but i loved the way it fit at first. At my final fitting, I decided to buy a petticoat. I was very against it at first, but I just wanted a little more oomph...and I wore dark blue undies that day and realized that you could in fact see through it!!! EEK. Lighting makes all the difference in what you can see.

I plan on buying a fit&flare slip for under my dress, just to make sure the silhouette holds. I want the organza to keep it's mermaid shape through the whole night! Smiley smile

To the OP, I laughed really hard when I saw this post because I have the same dress as you and was looking up the same question! I am currently of the opinion that you had, which is that the dress doesn't really need a slip, since it has some structure underneath already and doesn't have a huge, ballgown skirt that needs support. Plus, I'm getting married this month, which means I shouldn't need to worry too much about sweating on the dress. So, I'm hesitant to spend the money on one if I don't really need it. What did you end up doing and why?

(Also, sorry to everyone for reviving a dead post, but it's nice to find someone who has the same dress to ask them what they did. Thanks for understanding!)
