Are you supposed to tip all of your vendors? And when do you do it?

Adriana, on October 4, 2020 at 4:03 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

We are having an intimate wedding of just 18-20 guests and are trying to save money while we build a new house so our only vendors are the venue (who is also supplying our catering and a day of coordinator), a florist, an officiant, a photographer, and our baker. Which vendors are you supposed to tip and how much? We are only spending $7000-$8000 max on the whole wedding since our budget is tight so I can't imagine tipping 15 or 20% for each vendor on top of that. Is it okay to buy them a small gift of appreciation instead of a tip? I don't want to offend anyone but also don't want to break the bank. Thanks!

Wait till after your honeymoon when you can assess them objectively. Did they go above and beyond? Or did they provide bad/mediocre serve? You don't tip for the latter since you are telling them thank you and please do it to everyone else. Traditionally a tip is only given as a thank you for outstanding excellent service.

I would have tip money for the day to give to them. One less thing to worry about. It depends as there are different rules. I am going by who went above and beyond in regards to help the day of or communication. I would say anyone delivering sure give a little tip but like for my florist since I or my friend will pick up I won't tip. Cake person I will tip delivery person just $10. Officiant I am tipping $100 because she will be decorating a bit for me, bring a speaker to play processional and recessional music and she has been helpful with a lot almost slightly like a planner. My photographers $100 total.

We had a similar size and budget and were planning on tipping everyone, but on the day timing didn’t work out to tip officiant and guitarist. We have the photographer $100 - she was great and went above and beyond, and tipped the venue/DOC/food $300.

We will have cash on hand with thank you cards to give out or delivery just after the big day (we'll be honeymooning in the same town)
