Are You Still Friends With Your Ex?

I've heard three main sides to being friends with your ex. The first is it shows that the exes are mature enough to move forward with a friendship even though your relationship didn't work out. I've heard three main sides to being friends with your ex. The first is it shows that the exes are mature enough to move forward with a friendship even though your relationship didn't work out. The second is that the exes were never really in love so a platonic friendship is possible. The third is that the exes are still in love with each other and use "friendship" as a way to hold onto one another. I don't know if there is one right answer to this question so let's get the discussion started!

Are you still friends with your ex? Why or why not?

Interesting take. I'm in a loving, happy marriage so I didn't give it much thought. A professional told me that once that some people are just controlling and possessive. Others feel anger, jealousy etc because you have reached certain milestones before them. I try to consider other peoples' feelings but his are not my problem 🤷‍♀️

My first marriage ended with a handshake and a good luck. I would say hi if I saw him but his wife does not want us friendly. My second marriage ended with War of the roses. We had to stay in contact due to our kids but it constant fighting until he passed away.

I wouldn't categorize any of them as my friends. I still speak to my first Ex on a regular basis, but he's staying at the hotel my family owns so, there's no real way to never see him. We chat from time to time, but that's just because I'm mature enough, he still seeks a relationship from me, so we don't talk often, but I'm polite to all my ex's except one.

I'm friends with my first ex. We don't talk often, and it took years after we broke up for me to be ok talking to him again. There are exes I wouldn't mind being friends with but I'm not inclined to reach out to make it happen. Then there are exes that I'd pretend not to see if I spotted them in public.

I'm not friends with any of my exes however I could be friendly with most of them if we ever saw each other in public.
