Are you going with 1 or 2 photographers?

Cindy, on June 12, 2017 at 1:06 AM Posted in Planning 0 48

I'm sure 2 photographers would be better but just curious since some places charge $500 or more just for a second photographer! Does anyone think 2 photographers are necessary or would 1 be just fine?

Hoping to find more vendors next month and get that out of the way! I know theres time but one less thing to worry about!

We are using one company that will be sending 3 that will be doing both videography and photography. When i spoke to companies they always wanted to know how many guests and the size of the venue so they could tell me how many ppl they would need to send.

    We are having only one.

before booking, we went through the pictures from past events and they seemed to get every angle. plus the photographer works at the venue too so they know what happens where

I am going to do a harshtag for IG and snapchat so I'm not worried, I know friends and family will share their special moments with us that may be a little more "behind the scenes"

I would also agree that it depends on # of guests and size of venue. If you had less than 100 and a smaller intimate setting, I would think 1 is fine. If you have 300+ and a larger space then I would say you would definitely need 2. We're on that cusp at 130 guests and a medium size venue so I am leaning toward hiring a company that can send a second shooter.

Something to keep in mind will be your photography timeline , if you want getting ready photos of both 2 may be easier for scheduling

Thanks everyone! I guess we will see what happens when we start meeting with vendors. I haven't had time to really sit down and think about all this other stuff but now that I do ugh all I've been doing is researching!

I absolutely wanted 2. I prioritized photography though.

My thinking was, one photographer can focus on photos of us while the other can focus on the guests and getting pictures of them. For example, during cocktail hour, we will be taking formal pictures and the second photographer will be taking photos of guests at the cocktail hour. In the morning, one will be with the guys and take care of GM, FIL prewedding family photos while the other is with me doing BM and my family pictures.

Also, I liked both styles of photography so we were fortunate that one of our photographers is a photojournalist style and the other is a portrait style and they balance each other out really well. I am so pleased with them so far.

I'm going to have 3. 2 photographers and 1 videographer. They're a group and I'm not paying extra for that number

Pish posh. It largely depends on the working preference of each photographer and overall style and approach. I've never worked with a second, but an off camera lighting assistant. I built a routine and approach that works well and efficiently, and since I don't spend much time on group photos, it works fine. One very capable photographer can get the job done and tell a story effectively, others prefer to work in teams. My advice...worry less about what random people tell you in these online articles that tell you that you need this or that, and learn the approach of the service provider whose work you feel most strongly about. It's about the end product, not how you think they should do it.

I had 2 photographers at my wedding - it was non-negotiable for me.

I live in NYC and looked for an out-of-state photographer to help cut costs down. An excellent photographer in my area is minimum $5k for the lowest package (I paid $3675). Unlike a PP, it wasn't about one focusing on us while the other focused on guests during cocktail hour. It was about getting two different angles. Also, H and I were in two separate locations getting ready, so while the second shooter was with him, the BM and H's father, the main photographer was with me.

I also got a cinematographer package with 2 shooters. Photo/video was of the highest priority to me.

I had 2 at my wedding. But in the end it was because we felt that was what we needed.

When we spoke with photographers, we sort of gauged their style and how they operate. Then we provided what we wanted and in the end we decided 2 would be best based on what we wanted.

We wanted candid and my husband is very conscious of the camera, plus we wanted shots from different angles and of our guests as well so it made sense for us.

We had a 2nd, as the company was offering a half-price special, at the time. We also had the opportunity to hire and assistant, for only $100, so we did.

It depends on the size of the venue, the size of the group, and whether you want getting ready photos in two different locations. I rarely have one photographer in our venues. One will cover getting ready for one partner; one the other. One will to more candid shots while the other does more formal, 'expected' shots.

The cost, generally, is not humongously significant. And "lucky" is a very touchy term.

In NYC, Cindy? My go to is Andy Todes (he's here). After him; Rebecca Ferrier, Clean Plate and David Becker. (But Andy is, by far, my favorite)

We had 2 for the ceremony and 1 for the reception. We wanted to get both of our faces walking down the aisle so we wanted 2 for the ceremony. You only want so many pictures of people dancing so we had one for the reception Smiley smile
