Are wedding bands necessary?

I wanted to get a poll and see what people thought about wedding bands being a necessity or optional. I'm kind of weird and the idea of one side looking "bigger" and not symmetrical would drive me nuts. Plus it's also yet another cost and something I'm really not dying to have. What are your...

What are your thoughts on wedding bands?

If you want tradition that crosses hundreds of years you would have just a band, no engagement ring, and definitely not a diamond or precious stone.

No band for me. They all detracted from my ring and the guards completely changed the look of it. I love my ring as is.

Plus, instead of spending the money on bands, my FH is going to buy me a piece of jewelry on our honeymoon. Even better! Smiley smile

My parents didn't exchange wedding bands. My Mom has always been what she calls a super-feminist and ignored pretty much all of the standard wedding traditions, of their era.

They've been happily married almost 40 years.

My husband is on his 3rd ring, in 3 years. He takes them off and loses them. ARGH!

Mine came as a set and unfortunately when the jeweler sized my ring he also soldered them together, so I've been wearing the set since day one...kind of a bummer because I've seen a picture of my e-ring by itself and think it's gorgeous and would liked to have worn it like that a little.

Depending on your ring they make enhancers that the ring sits inside, so it would be symmetrical and look like you had a band on both sides of your e-ring

I've officiated a few weddings when neither bride nor groom got a ring and just skipped that portion of the ceremony.

I don't think they are necessary. But if symmetry is the issue why not get two bands? My sister has that. One is her wedding band and she got another one for her anniversary the 1st year.

Jovan, this is why its important to read the thread, not just the title.

Its not necessary, but if its just the symmetry issue you could look at wraps.

It is not necessary, but it is important to me. IMO the wedding band is more important than the engagement ring.
