Are we required to have favors for our wedding guests?

My wedding planner has totally changed my perspective on wedding favors. She says of all the weddings she's worked, favors are the biggest waste of the couple's money. They're always thrown out at the end of the night -- especially if it's something with your name or wedding date all over it.

We've been told that the best favor is food or alcohol in some form. My FH and I are thinking of doing popcorn or cookies and milk at the end of the reception as a "midnight snack", but that's the most we will do as an additional favor! We think a hot, four course meal, and unlimited alcohol is a sufficient party favor.

This is just the case for us!

You are not required to give out wedding favors. If it's not edible it will be a huge waste of money. And to be honest nobody but maybe you, your parents and maybe wedding party will even really want a customized keepsake item. More than half always get left behind. With edible favors people might eat them at the wedding or take them home for their kids. Some still will get left behind but not as much.

Definitely not! i think favors are nice though to do but they arent necessary

Favors aren't required but as a guest I do like them. Favorites for edible ones are tea bags, spices, honey, maple syrup, sea salt, chocolates. For non-edible, I like matches, socks, gloves, candles, bottle/wine openers, and photo-booth photos
