Are photo booths played out?

We are having a black tie wedding in a major city (with all the trimmings) and I put a photo booth on my list of vendors. We haven't contracted yet, but it should be about $500 after discounts. The money isn't the issue, maybe I'm concerned about the vibe. We have a 12 piece band, valet, etc. Is it...

I think the Magic Mirror Photo Booth would work really well at a formal event. You could have a red carpet going up to it. I've been considering one as well.

I don't get photo booths. Everyone has a phone to take a photo.

As a guest they are fun. I would say it's a nice trinket to have from the wedding day. But personally it's not something I would want at my own wedding. Having been to wedding with and without I don't think it hurts the overall guest experience and if you don't think it fits your day then don't bother.

This is what I am going to do. I saw a great backdrop idea on Pinterist that I will recreate, a large heart that is bordered by flowers, and the inside of the heart has the bridal couples names and wedding date. I have a friend who is able to take pictures of guests with this backdrop, and guests could use their own cameras or phones for their own picture. I will have it near the dance floor so no one will be secluded from the party.

I think it depends on your crowd. We’re not having one at our wedding, but one of my best friends had a photo booth at hers and loved it. There are pros & cons. I know my guests will probably like to dance and because of budget, we’re passing. My friend, however, loved the silly pictures that got put in her photo book, but it did take a good amount of guests off the dance floor.

I have never really liked these, personally. They airways feel a bit tacky to me, abbr based on the type of wedding you describe, I think it would be out of place.

We thought so too so we did the mirror photo booth because we hadn't seen it anywhere. It was 750$ instead of 500$ but way worth it in my opinion for originality and came with 2 attendants

I'm not doing one. Seems like a waste of money.

They may be "played out" but I am super excited about having one. The majority of our wedding is pretty formal and "fancy" but it's also going to be super fun and awesome so I don't care if having a photo booth is cheesy lol.

I probably wouldn’t have one for a black tie event, kinda tacky it seems.

Some people love photo booths. I'm over them, and have never really found them that fun, but it's a know your crowd thing and how you want to spend your money.

I don't think they're played out. We had one at our wedding, and while not black tie, it was formal, we had a live band, etc... and everyone loved the photo booth. They were able to set it up in the main reception room, so it really didn't draw too much away from the dance floor. People danced all night still, and the photo strips we got from the booth are awesome. Yes, many, many people have them, and I can't remember a wedding that didn't have one, but I think people generally still enjoy them, which is why people are still having them.

I've been to a couple of weddings recently with Selfie Stations--a few selfie sticks and a selection of photobooth type props. maybe that could be a nice, cheaper compromise?

The photobooth was a huge hit at my wedding 3 weeks ago. We had 200 guests and almost all of them took photo booth pics at some point throughout the night. we got a really nice leather binder with a copy of all the pics on it and the guests got a copy too. It was personalized with our wedding logo. I would definitely do it again.

I like them, but I don't think they're exactly novel anymore - no one will miss it if you don't want one.

I disagree that they would be out of place at a black tie wedding - most black tie weddings I've been to offer excessive entertainment, it's not about being stuffy IMO.

I dont prefer them. I suppose it is a way to keep guests busy, but I'd rather do something else. It's a little cheesy for me.

We had a beautiful and elegant 325+ guest wedding at one of Atlanta's largest churches in Buckhead. We did hire a photo booth, and guests lined up for it...all ages!! It was a big enough hit for us to go into the business ourselves six months later. Since then, we've done hundreds of events, most of which have been weddings. We've done weddings in barns, train depots, warehouses, yards, parks, churches, country clubs and more. There have been black tie, and formal as well as casual and even sports themed...and everything in between. But the reaction and response we received with our photo booths is always the same... they LOVE it. Guests of all ages will jump at the chance to get into our traditional style or in front of one of our beautiful backdrops in our "open-air" style booths. It's a way to get photos of all the guests while allowing them to take home a keepsake from the event or wedding. No question. Hire a company with a great reputation and tell them the theme and formality of your wedding and go for it.
