Are honeymoon registries really that rude?

I was surprised to find out that a lot of people thought cash gifts and honeymoon registries are rude, and that people would feel that strongly about it! My family is Chinese and in Chinese culture cash is always given at weddings. It would actually be weird to ask them to buy gifts. That and the fact that my fiancé and I both live abroad and wouldn't be able to bring all the gifts on traditional registries back with us anyways. In this case, would anyone be offended if I had a honeymoon registry or asked for cash gifts? If so, what would be a good alternative? Any advice or opinions appreciated!

It sounds like we have a similar situation (my FH and I live abroad) and we registered with Honeyfund. The way I look at it, if anyone is offended, they don't have to use the site. I was also racking my brain to come up with an alternative, because my mom wants to throw me a shower and didn't want people to think I wanted only cash gifts. So I went on Target's website and added anything that we can't get here and would like to bring back with us. (I seriously registered for Nyquil and M&M's!) I suggested my mom put a little note in like, the only gift the couple wants is your presence at the wedding, but if you fill so inclined you can help them fill their suitcase with comfort items.....
