Are ghost chairs practical for reception seating?

Ashley, on August 5, 2021 at 6:26 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
I'm obsessed with the look of ghost chairs for a modern looking reception but wondering how comfortable they are. Has anybody gone to an event with ghost chairs and can weigh in?

I've never sat in on but after a quick Google search I'm hesitant to say go for it! They're made of hard plastic or glass and look a little cheap to me. I did a quick search of "ghost chairs wedding" and hundreds of photos came up. They look like those clear, plastic garden chairs I had in the 90s. Have you ever sat in a ghost chair? How much more expensive are they to rent that other chairs? This is YOUR wedding though. If you want ghost chairs, get them! Smiley smile

I feel like surely I've sat in a chair like that and I feel like they are pretty comfy - certainly no more uncomfortable than any regular chair! But can you try it out before you hire?

I would test them out for comfort over aesthetics.

I know I’ve sat in them before & I remember they weren’t too comfortable. Will you be putting any type on f cushion on them?

Are any of your guests heavily overweight? If yes, I would not go for them, pretty as they are.

Check with a few vendors and see if you can test them out before renting them. Smiley smile

My concern with ghost chairs is that they would show wear and tear more, so scratches that might not be a big deal on a white plastic garden chair might be more apparent on something made from clear acrylic. If renting chairs, I wouldn't want to end up with a bunch of scuffed and damaged chairs.

That's just an assumption though and I have never been at a wedding that has used them. I have seen them in household decor though and I don't think they are any more or less comfortable than similar chair designs in a different material. Like regular plastic chairs, some are more comfortable than others.

I think there's a fine line where they'll either look really cheap, or really modern and expensive looking. It all depends on your decorations for your wedding. That being said, I'd try to find some that you can test out sitting in for a while. My back starts to hurt after sitting on a hard surface for a little while, and I know these chairs would do the same thing. As a guest, I'd much rather sit on a wooden chair with a cushion.
