Are Evites tacky ??

What is the etiquette on evites? I really want to use an electronic invitation because of how easy they are .. I was wondering if anyone has used them for their wedding or do you think they are too informal for a wedding..

We did a somewhat hybrid electronic and paper method.

STDs - sent by email, included wedding website URL

Invites - paper, sent via snail mail, had RSVP info on them

RSVP - online only, no paper cards

Thank Yous - paper, sent by mail

Unless you are having a small informal wedding I think sending "real" invites by mail is best for a special event like a wedding, however I don't think you have to go nuts with stationary. Our invites and thank you cards were pretty inexpensive and minimalist but elegant, and we saved a lot of money by only paying postage for two out of the four and not having to do paper STDs and RSVP cards.

I don't think it's tacky since yours is a backyard event. We also did evites for our September outdoor/park wedding. With everything happening with Covid and not knowing if we would need to postpone the wedding, we couldn't figure out when to send invites. Finally we pulled the trigger a month ago and sent evites for our 'now' smaller event (family only...more like a large family reunion with about 50people). No one judged and everyone was understanding given the circumstances.

I say go for the e-vites! It’s your day so you should do what makes you happy & if that’s what fits your budget then I’d say that’s definitely the way to go. Also, paper invitations typically get thrown away by most people & e-vites are way better for the environment!

The are only for very informal occasions. And I tend to think of any minimal fuss event that uses them as more expendable than a more elaborate or formal one, if I have to choose between 2 events. Evite, like an email blast, says, no big deal and informal, to me. If you want to save paper, then talk to each invited party, or make a phone call, putting your personal time and effort into it. That has more weight and dignity. Then a follow up individual email, a details sheet.

I wish I had done evites because all of my invitations (150) are now a waste because we have to postpone our wedding reception

I personally think they’re a bit, if not tacky, just thoughtless. However, I enjoy when an invitation gives me an option to RSVP via mail or online (offering both).

I did formal evites and I love it! Saved me some money and I love that I can keep track of who opened the message, who responded, etc...

Plus with all the changes that COVID-19 brings, it’s so easy to update guests on any changes.

I was about to order our 200 invites and I am so glad I didn't. We might have to postpone or we may only be allowed 25 guests! That would be terrible. I'm so sorry that happened to you!

Hmm, I never thought of them as tacky. I would suggest to double check your potential guests because those that are senior citizens may not receive them, lol.

We originally sent out beautiful manuscript-style parchment invitations with wax seals, for our wedding. Then Covid came and we had to reschedule. Then our venue changed administration, and they backed us up, refusing to budge on our second option (September 19th, 2020), or we'd lose everything. Now, we're making the best of it, but I've got less than 60 days to design, seal, mail & get back RSVPS, AND enjoy spending even more than planned for. Nope! I'm currently scrambling for classy, Medieval themed evites. It's going to be a very small, intimate wedding, with almost exclusively family.

I think evites are great! Easy to keep track of and let's be honest.... you're spending money on invitations that are going to be thrown away. The way I see it, put the postage and invitation money elsewhere! Now, if you have older/elderly guests that don't have online access or would never see an evite, you may want to have a few printed ones to mail to them? Just my thoughts.
