Are Evites tacky ??

Alyson, on July 24, 2020 at 4:37 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 31

What is the etiquette on evites? I really want to use an electronic invitation because of how easy they are .. I was wondering if anyone has used them for their wedding or do you think they are too informal for a wedding..

I don’t find them to be tacky. I don’t really see the difference in using Evites versus having people RSVP on your wedding website.

I personally think they're too informal for a wedding. Your invitations are the first note about the formality of your event, so if you were to send an evite, I'd probably think it was a very, very, very casual backyard BBQ type event. I'm also terrible at responding to evites and always get the last minute reminders (though coincidentally, I respond quickly to paper invitations. *shrug*)

I think they're fine for an extremely casual backyard BBQ style wedding, but not anything more formal than that.

Yeah .. It's a backyard wedding but I still want it to have some class haha.. also, when you were getting everyone's addresses did you just reach out to them asking for it?

I don't think 'tacky' should describe anything. There are more polite ways of saying something is rude or not your style.

That said, e-vites are very informal and better suited to a birthday party or family reunion. Even if you're on a tight budget, you can get nice but inexpensive invites though Vistaprint or Ann's Bridal Bargains.
You can still have them reply only though for convenience.

Yes, just ask them via email/phone/private message on social media.

Yes, I did. I texted those whose number I had and reached out on Facebook to those whose number I didn’t have. Contacting everyone also allowed me to get names of significant others that I may not have known so I could properly include them on the invite. I utilized a couple of the matriarchs in my fiancé’s family to help with relatives I didn’t know and who weren’t on social media, but for the most part compiling addresses was a pretty quick process for me.

I totally PREFER evites. I can keep track of an email with a link much easier than I can a paper invite. I'd also way rather RSVP online than have to send a card in - I never have stamps!

They're also easier on the environment Smiley smile

My partner and I are doing E-vites for our semi-formal wedding (cocktail attire on a yacht). We talked a bit about etiquette and decided that we're adults and can do what we want. We figured we don't have too many elderly people coming so what's the worst that could happen?

I had to reschedule so many times that the are a necessity and not tacky nor optional. And they can be as elaborate as you like. It's time weddings caught up to the modern age. And many online site let you putting them for keepsakes. Please don't be put off. I like greenvelope Smiley smile

I prefer an e-vite. Paper invites look nice but they’re expensive and kind of wasteful (just my opinion!). Also, my entire life is online on my phone. I like digital because I can easily add to my calendar. Paperless Post has nice options.

We are having a small wedding (20 guests) so I just created an event page on Facebook. Then I can update everyone with any details for the day of the wedding.

That's the whole reason I even considered them was the convenience of having it online and being able to keep better track not only for me but for my guests.

I'm right there with you ! every thing I do is online and you're so right on the wasteful part .. out of all the weddings I've been invited to I've only saved 1 invitation because of the meaning but why send up to $300 for someone to throw away

This makes me feel so much better! Because I as well don't have that many elders coming to my wedding everyone on my guest list is either my age or a little bit older . Thank you !
