Are balloons cheap looking?

Fireworks WIFE, on March 7, 2013 at 2:11 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

So after much deliberation we are not having the picnic baskets/blankets for the ceremony. I just am scared it will be hard for the people in the back to see/hear so now I have to decide on aisle decor - blahh...

I love the look of this (not aisle decor per say) but I've always felt balloons looked like a little kids birthday party. Does the fact that they are huge make them look better?

I want it all to look Soft, Romantic, but Fun - HELP!

I don't like balloons for weddings at all, because I think kid party. Some brides here will say they like them. So it really is what YOU like.

I think if done right, like that picture, it can look very nice. But it does have to be those giant ones and you can even put lights in them to make them look more like lamps.

But you also have to think about the possibility of them getting in the way if it ends up being windy. That would just end up being a pain for the guests and maybe you while walking down the asile.

There's been quite a few discussions on here that balloons don't belong at a wedding. But if they're done right and fit in with the atmosphere I think it could look nice. You're having a casual atmosphere, you could make those big ones work.

I think those big round ones are cute and could fit into your theme. To me they look schmancier than regular birthday balloons.

My only thing would be if it's windy at all, they'll be blowing around which could be a PITA and look funny in pictures....

Yeah they have special round ones... as opposed to the traditional party balloon that will give you that shape, and I think it looks really neat... But be mindful that wind can really take away from the look you're going for too... Like I'm getting married a hot second from lake erie and its going to be windy, it just always is right off the lake so just something else to think about

I recently saw a wedding blog real wedding pictures that had picnic blanket style seating in the front and then had chairs in the back with signs that had something cute about if you have a bad back we've saved you and your family a seat... I'm guessing they knew about how many people would need a seat and then made sure there was enough for their immediate family or guest or whatever...

I F'ing love balloons... I always give them as presents on birthdays. So for us it works because it is kinda that thing when people see balloons they think of me. however for us it will be a last minute decision... wind = huge factor.

As others said it really depends on how it's done... I think that we might have a few like the ones you pictured but near the dance/lounge and we're putting LED lighting in them for atmosphere. Also might have 2 that show the entrance of where we want guests to enter from the parking lot and 2 for the entrance of the bridal walk way... so for us very minimal... but again gameday decision - and 7 months this whole idea of balloons may change... BUT I LOVE them...

Those balloons look very elegant, those arent the kind you see at kiddie parties!! I don't think those look cheap at all, now if you use regular balloons I think those will look cheap & kiddie... But I love the picture!

    I love those kind.

I looked into them for my reception, but the vendor couldn't guarantee that he would have helium. There's a worldwide shortage of helium because of it's use in the medical field so it can be hit or miss (according to the vendor I talked to).

@ Fireworks bride... I was thinking of having a may pole over by where the horseshoe pit is... I thought it would be nostalgic..

I personally think normal balloons look tacky at weddings, but I love the big round ones. That picture is super cute and great inspiration but as others said, wind is not good for that. And I always love the picture of a bride and groom both holding onto a big ol' balloon. The key is to do it right, which is hard. Why did you give up on the picnic blanket idea? I like doing it for some and then having benches or chairs in the back. Some people could stand too if they wanted.

I think regular balloons look cheap. But the ones you have pictured I think look nice. I've seen them on some of the wedding shows and I think they look nice when done right.

We're having just a very few of the large balloons but they will only be used for pictures after the ceremony.

I couldn't find quality blankets that I liked and could justify spending on and I am afraid those in the back wont be able to see/hear.

I do like the umbrellas! I am interest hunting now. Christine, we were going to do a vintage carnival theme and I wanted a may pole so bad. I think we have alot in common
