We're getting married on a Friday and our timeline looks like this

Ceremony 4-430

Cocktail hour 430-6 (90 mins required to flip ceremony space)

Dinner 630 (dances and march beforehand)

Dancing 8-12

My question is do we need to serve appetizers during cocktail hour?? If so, how many pieces would you order for a 120 guest list?

Right now I'm thinking out that $$ towards the bar. Thoughts?

Yes to alcohol at the wedding - good you've got that covered. But if you want to avoid your guests getting trashed or dangerously drunk then yes an hour and a half of drinking must be accompanied by appetizers

You're gonna have a lot of hangry guests if you have a 90 minute cocktail hour without any apps.

Wow that's a long wedding! For a ninety minute cocktail hour I think you'd need at least 10 apps pp.

Absolutely. Wouldn't you want to go that long without a little something to snack on to pass the time? It's a courtesy to your guests for having to wait.

Drinking for 90 minutes with no food to go with it sounds like a great time. Everyone will be drunk or passed out before your bridal party intros.

My timeline is the same and so is the guest count. I am doing apps, just a few cracker/cheese platters, fruit and veggie trays my grandma and cousins offer to put together. People will be a lot happier sitting around for that period of time with some goodies in their belly! You could also do like little trail mix baggies just for munching?

GORP is not an appetizer. It's trail mix.

I would absolutely serve apps, especially since your cocktail hour is longer than the standard time frame.

Ask your caterer how much you should order. I believe I saw the average is 3-4 pieces per person per hour... so 540 minimum of that calculation is correct. Remember to get variety (not everyone likes mushrooms or cheese).

I don't understand how you can even think about having an app-less cocktail hour and a half on a Friday wedding. Please either think about your guests or don't invite them. Frankly you're already making them take off work, and then making them wait 90 minutes while you take photos, the least you can do is feed them with real appetizers (not fruit, crackers and cheese).

Yes, cocktail hour food is my favorite in wedding! Talk to your caterer they should have an idea of how many pieces.

Yes you need appetizers. A lot of people will probably leave work early and go straight to the wedding. They may not have time to eat between. They will be hungry. And food is always food when alcohol is being served.
