Are ALL vendors horrible at followup??

Charis, on October 16, 2017 at 9:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

I'm so annoyed right now and I kinda need to vent. I can't seem to get anyone to get back to me! I contact cake people, caterers, makeup artists and hear nothing back for a week! So I followup.. "Hi, I'm getting married next year and I'm interested in using your services..." (Maybe call me back?? Do you need the business or not?!). Then I get a reply with a little info, and another week or 2 goes by before I have to follow up again to actually try to get a contract or anything set up. It's like pulling teeth!

It would be one thing if it was just one or 2 companies and I was scraping the bottom of the barrel price wise but it's not! It's everyone! Is it just me going through this? Are all wedding vendors horrible? Hair and makeup seem to be the worst. I'm about ready to book the $400 chick because she actually replies to me!

Ok, rant over. Thank you for tuning in Smiley smile

No, we're not. Some are. Call them, then move onto someone else.

I felt the same way when I started looking for MUA. Nobody was responding to me, and I needed hair and makeup for 10 people... Like why aren't you getting back to me? That's easily $2000 I'm trying to spend with you!

It takes 30 seconds to say "hey I'm busy this week, I'll get in touch next week," not to mention I'd be killed if I waited to respond to someone at my job! So I set a timeline, unless I was REALLY interested in someone, if I had no response within a week, I moved on.

    That seems really annoying!

Both our venue and our photographer get back to me within 24 hours of sending the email-- and our wedding is a while away, AND it's their peak season for weddings. Just seems like bad customer service on the vendors you are contacting's part. I understand being busy during this time and not having time to do EVERYTHING, as they are human, but they can at least respond and let you know what's going on.

That's how I feel! I have my own business and I make sure to get back to people at least in 24 hours even if it's to let them know that I'm out of town or busy and will get back to them later. I've never had so much bad customer service at one time before.

I hear you on the frustration. The venue was like that at first and I went straight up the ladder and told them my next email would be to corporate. Now I get a response within a few hours if the ding bat is in her office. But all my other vendors have been super at answering even though I'm still pretty far out. I hope things start to turn around for you

Ive always had good response with vendors but if a vendor couldnt get back to me within a week or so, I cross them off the list and move on. I did a lot of research on venues and the venues we seriously considered were the ones that had great response rates.

No, but keep in mind that this is the absolute busiest time of the year for most vendors, even moreso than spring.

But if the communication is really bad, move on.

I'd suggest you go to the vendor's website and email them through that method, not the connection through wedding wire. I'm not going to get into it, but if you want to be sure your WW vendors get your inquiry in a timely manner, go to their websites and contact them that way.

My photographer has been the WORST communicator ever so far. It took her 2 weeks to even be bothered to check her mail for the deposit check I sent... I had to message her 3 times and I finally was like I'm going to have to cancel the check because I don't even know if you have it. That apparently was enough for her to confirm that she indeed had the check. Now I can't seem to get her to reply long enough to set up an engagement session. We have a day but not a time... it's so frustrating. I work in health care where communication is the most crucial part of my job. I just wish others valued it as much as I do. I get life happens but cmon it only takes a second to reply to a message when you have a spare moment. So I feel your pain.

I had this issue with a few venues. I'd email them for more information.. I'm still waiting for it, and it's been weeks. So I'm moving on. If they can't return an email request for information after 2 weeks, I'm not going to deal. One venue it's been months.. Nope.

I'm still "waiting" on quotes from vendors.

Honestly, if they don't answer calls or emails within two business days. Move on.

Hey date twin! It sounds like we are having the same experiences too. The only vendors that have been kind enough to get back to me at a reasonable time are the photographer and MUA I've hired. Our venue took 6 weeks to sign their contract after we had already signed it...it also took them that long to process our deposit for the place. It has been incredibly frustrating...The catering company that we are really interested in hasn't returned our calls in 2 months, and yes, we have tried calling them a couple times. Unfortunately, we are choosing to go with another company that will be 4 hours away from our venue instead of being local. Everything else wedding planning wise has gone great with the exception if contacting vendors. I'm kinda glad we aren't the only ones having this problem, but I wish it wasn't like this to begin with!

Are you messaging them up here? If so, that is the problem. Find their website and contact them through email or phone

I've been having that same issue...I tried their website and they still haven't answered me, I started asking friends who they used or just showing up to places so I could at least talk to them, that method seems to work best for them responding to me.
