Appropriate for a father/daughter dance?

wowjunkie, on September 30, 2009 at 12:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

I need a vote on whether or not this song is appropriate for the father/daughter dance. Thank you for loving me, by Bon Jovi

It's hard for me to say the things

I want to say sometimes

There's no one here but you and me

And that broken old street light

Lock the doors

We'll leave the world outside

All I've got to give to you

Are these five words when I

Thank you for loving me

For being my eyes when I couldn't see for

Parting my lips when I couldn't breathe

Thank you for loving me

Thank you for loving me

I never knew I had a dream

Until that dream was you

When I look into your eyes

The sky's a different blue

Cross my heart

I wear no disguise

If I tried, you'd make believe

That you believed my lies

Thank you for loving me

For being my eyes when I couldn't see

For parting my lips when I couldn't breathe

Thank you for loving me

You pick me up when I fall down

You ring the bell before they count me out

If I was drowning you would part the sea

And risk your own life to rescue me, yeah

    Thank you for loving me

For being my eyes oh, when I couldn't see

    When I couldn't fly

    Oh, you gave me wings

    Oh for loving me

I'm also thinking maybe it's gender neutral enough to have FH dance with his mom to it to? I need feedback!

Honestly most people don't catch all the words. Hubby has told me so many songs make him think of me that are break up songs that he didn't realize it because the chorus sound all lovey dovey lol the parted my lips part is kinda sexual but not enough to not use it. I think it is a great song!

Ummm, I always think of this song as a guy singing to his wife/girlfriend/lover. I never thought of it being used as a father/daughter song, so it's hard for me to think of it as such. Let your father listen to it and ask his opinion. He might be ok with it, but it may make him uncomfortable. If he likes it too, I say go for it!

I've always thought of it as a romantic love as well. But it's up to the two of you. If you both like it, go for it.

All the other songs people are suggesting fall into the "lover" category to me so I've kind of given up. Lover, or I feel like the singer is singing to their little girl, and I'm not a child!

It's a great song. I've heard it used as a first dance song and a closing song. If your Dad likes it, go for it. One note - it is a rather long song. Your Dad may appreciate cutting it in half or adding another dance couple (e.g., Mother/Son) half way through.

What about Little Wonders by Rob Thomas. It's more about appreciating the special moment you're in.

Let it go, let it roll right off your shoulder

Don't you know the hardest part is over

Let it in, let your clarity define you

In the end we will only just remember how it feels

Our lives are made in these small hours

These little wonders, these twists & turns of fate

    Time falls away

But these small hours, these small hours still remain

Let it slide, let your troubles fall behind you

Let it shine until you feel it all around you

And i don't mind if it's me you need to turn to

We'll get by, it's the heart that really matters in the end

Our lives are made in these small hours

These little wonders, these twists & turns of fate

Time falls away, but these small hours,

    These small hours still remain

All of my regret will wash away some how

But i can not forget the way i feel right now

I think I may dance with my mom and step dad to this one (we're doing kind of a 'cut-in' situation half way through). Good luck!

I'm using "I Loved Her First" by Heartland. It's more country than anything I guess, but I love hoe it's more like the father talking to the FH. It always makes me cry!

I'm in the same boat, wowjunkie. I love Elton John and some of his songs COULD be a man talking about or to his daughter, but most people see the songs as "lover" songs. What a pain!

What kind of music are you looking for. Do you want something really father daughter sentimental? I too am using Heartland's I loved her first. I know some people don't like country, but there are really great songs that are seemingly written just for father/daughter dances. her are some

"then they do" by trace adkins

    "my little girl" tim mcgraw

"you're gonna miss this" trace adkins - this is more about being in the moment and enjoying every day, not super weddingy but still nice

    I hope this helps.

I really love Bon Jovi. My bridal party is walking to some of their songs to play homage to my Matron of Honor because she has been amazing and she just loves them. I think that if you want to dance to the song then by all means use it.

We are using the ultimate tear-jerker...Butterfly Kisses. I just love that song and it so beautiful.

I love Bon Jovi, but this speaks of "locking the door" and lips parting, and really doesn't come off as a good father/daughter connotation. How about "Unforgettable" by Nat and Natalie Cole (Father/daughter) and it can be used with mother/son, as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GVKbhYrcGM

Oooh kathy i was thinking about using i loved her first! lol im either using that or cinderella by steven curtis chapman. that was written specifically so he could dance with his daughter to that song. tragic accident though, he never will. but the bon jovi song does sound a little sexual with the 'parted my lips' part, someones lips usually part when your about to kiss.

Either they're all too sexual or really creep me out! I don't know what to do! I feel like "Daddy's Little Girl" or anything along those themes are about just that - daddy's LITTLE girl! I'm an adult. That's the day I'm getting married. They seem really inappropriate to me. I have a feeling I'll be looking for songs right up until the day before the wedding! I'm not a little kid, I'm not a princess, and my dad and I love each other very much, but it's not a sappy relationship.

That's why i like "I loved her first" because the father is talking about his first memory of her, but he's also talking about the "now" and how she's grown up.
