Apple cider donuts or more?

Fmv, on June 4, 2019 at 9:51 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 37
So my FH and I looove fall weather, fall decor, basically we love everything about fall.
We went to an apple far about a year ago and they had the best apple cider donuts-so were like hey! That would be a great dessert for our guests and it would tie in with out fall themed wedding. Sadly that apple farm does not make large orders. So this fall we will be sampling other farms so we can order from them.
My FH hates traditional cake and frosting but he loves nothing bundt cakes. So we will have a small bundt cake for us to cut and eat. But now im thinking is apple cider donuts enough for our guests? Thoughts?
What are you doing for desserts

I think that would be enough, but if you are really concerned, maybe you can offer a cheap alternate choice like chocolate chip cookies, too. Just to give some sort of variety, especially to the picky eaters.

I agree with Danielle. I would offer maybe one other option of something simple like a cookie. I personally don't like cider donuts/most donuts in general (I know, I'm weird lol) so I would appreciate having another option!

Personally, I think whatever the dessert(s) is(are), there should be enough for everyone. So if you're having a Nothing Bundt Cake for yourselves, I'd have enough for all your guests, and if you also want donuts, have those for your guests as well. I'm not a big donut fan, and except for maybe a brunch, don't really see them as a wedding dessert -- especially if the B&G have any kind of cake for themselves, I'd be bummed about an after dinner donut. (Part of this is that I think donuts have to be "just made fresh" or they tend to be dry & chewy; I don't think I've ever had a donut that was good hours after it was made.)

I agree with this. We attended one wedding where the couple cut a single tier cake and then only had an ice cream bar for guests and it was weird. If you’re cutting a cake, there should be some kind of cake for guests.

Its a definite no on ordering nothing bundt cakes everyone. It is extremely pricey for the amount of guests were having.
Ive been to many weddings that the bride and groom had a small cake for themselves to cut and eat, and smaller desserts for the guests.

I personally don't like apple cider flavored anything, so I wouldn't want to eat the dessert. Maybe order a plain sheet cake from a grocery store!

I understand needing to choose your dessert so it fits within your budget (daughter did a TON of comparison shopping on the cake to find one that she loved that fit her budget, so, truly, I get it), but I'd also caution you that choosing something for yourselves that is "too expensive" to serve to your guests sends a weird (and potentially not very polite) message to those guests. It would be like the couple being served filet mignon, but then serving their guests hamburgers because it would be ridiculously expensive to serve them filet mignon.... Clearly, you can do whatever you want, but you asked for feedback. I'd probably keep looking for something that you like/fits your overall wedding style and you can afford to serve to everyone.

This is what we are doing. A small cake to cut and a butt load of donuts.

I don' think it's weird at all to just have a small cake, I totally get it. Keep the tradition of cutting the cake but get to have a dessert that's actually tasty and specific to you guys! I agree with Danielle, especially with something so specific like apple cider donuts, give them one more option. Maybe cupcakes, some could be a fall flavor and the rest chocolate for the simple dessert people. Or the donuts with some fall pie options, a few apple, pecan and some pumpkin! So cute and cheap.

I'm actually doing something like that for my wedding too. I'm hoping for the doughnuts but i'm for sure having apple cider. I"m getting married in the fall in October, and that's BIG time apple season here in Michigan. If I do favors i'm doing mini apple pies

I would get other desserts because apple cider donuts are a very specific flavor and a lot of people don’t like them.

Im saying that one nothing bundt cake us is fine price wise, but their wedding pricing for bundt cakes it pretty pricey so we cant go that route.
I dont think any of our guests would go "omg they bought a cake, and we get other desserts?? How rude! " and its not my problem if they do.
Like i said ive been to many wedding that did this and no one had issues that the couple had cake and the guests had something else.
    Thanks for your input

That’s fine. I meant in addition to the cider donuts, you should have additional desserts.

I think that is enough. many people do cupcakes now a days in lieu of a cake so i imagine a donut would be the same. my bridesmaids suggested donuts to me before ahah mainly because i think she wanted donuts. i personally, love CRONUTS. those are literally my favorite thing - it's a cross between a croissant and a donut.

i don't see anything wrong with you getting one small bundt cake to cut and donuts for everyone else. there are a ton of people and even i, had thought of getting a small cake just for the purpose of cake cutting and then serving guests something else like cupcakes.
