Cristina E., on June 24, 2014 at 5:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Hi again! Does anyone have any suggestions for what to serve appetizer wise for my garden outdoor wedding?? Is just going to be appetizers and cocktails and cake after :-) something that is light and also heavy but quick or easy to make for about 50 people. Thank you in advance!

Is it a more formal wedding with passed apps, or more casual where people help them selves?

Quiche are always nice. Maybe those Caprese Salad skewers with cherry tomato, mozzarella and basil with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Mushroom caps stuffed with assorted fillings would also be nice.

For inspiration, go to Costco! :o) No, really! Costco has a TON of appetizers!! You can never go wrong with fruit platters, though!

I have so many recipes...lol... and they can be made to your taste.

I like pinwheel rolls... I have a wonderful recipe for turkey and cranberry ones.

I also like to marinate cubes of cheese, salami, black olives and grape tomatoes in a balsamic vinaigrette, then put them on picks...good, easy finger food.

Always popular are fruit and vegetable trays, with a variety of dips.

Stuffed mushrooms, bacon wrapped water chestnuts, peanut chicken on a stick...the list goes on Smiley smile

Those mini quiches would probably good. Or little wraps of lunch meat and stuff. Those may be good too.

We are doing the same type of thing for our wedding! What we came up with our caterer was:

trays of tortilla wraps (honey ham, buffalo chicken, roast beef, turkey and cranberry)

    trays of fruit/veggie/cheese

    bruschetta station

    spinach artichoke dip station

We're doing coffee, punch, and water. Then just wedding cake for our dessert.

I make meatballs with bead sticks on a skewer that you cook in the oven. Everyone raves about them and they are pretty filling for an appetizer.

Would it be worth the trouble to make my own fruit and vegetable trays? Or is that something that should be ordered?

Keep it easy to eat - cheese platters, fruit platters, small tarts in phyllo cups/on chips. You could even do mini grilled cheese sandwiches and deli rolls.

Honestly, I don't think it would be worth the trouble. Cheese and fruit can be expensive, you'd have to prepare and then nicely place them on different platters that you have to buy. I would go to Publix, Kroger or Costco and order some platters. Publix has an awesome selection for great prices (and they sometimes deliver too...)

If youre looking at cost, make your own fruit and veggie trays. The premade ones are pricey, since youre paying for labor. You'll get 3-5 times as much food if you do them yourself. You can chop the stuff up a day in advance and put it in large ziploc bags, that way all you have to do is pour it on a tray. I used to be a chef, so I know a little about this stuff lol. Also, be careful buying premade appetizers, they get pricey as well, even at Costco. If you have the help, Pintrest and make some things yourself, or buy large full size items and then cut them down to appetizer size servings.
