Anyone's ring an antique/estate sale/vintage?

Samantha, on May 14, 2021 at 11:38 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

I have two minds about my ering - fh wants to shop together.

I love the idea of an antique ring, drool over the ones on eragem.

But...I am also leaning toward a moissanite.

Please show off your vintage rings if you are so inclined!

Mine is vintage from a seller on etsy! I love pearl rings and always wanted on (not a big fan of
diamonds) Etsy had a ton of vintage and vintage inspired designs! Anyone's ring an antique/estate sale/vintage? 1

I am completely with you- I LOVE vintage rings! The details and history are just amazing! Neither of these are my engagement ring, but I have 2 antique rings I adore (I wear them on my right hand). The first is 1920s and the second is 1930s

    Kind of!

The main diamond in my engagement ring actually came from FH's italian grandma! It's from a set of earrings. He got this one and his older brother got the other diamond. He had my setting made (and you can't see, but the sides of the diamond are like flower petals!

The band came from an estate sale!

I just had an idea - I wonder if there are antique settings where the stone has been taken out (some 20’s wall street millionaire who lost it in the crash and his bride saved the family fortune by selling the stone... LOL) and we could have a moissanite set?

Very possible! You could search or contact vintage jewelry dealers to see if they have some vintage settings. Out of curiosity, why are you wanting a moissanite? I have a friend that wanted one because she felt they were more ethical - But, if you are buying vintage, it is a pre-existing stone, you aren’t contributing to “conflict diamonds), as no mining is necessary, and it is not further depleting natural elements.

Thank you! I love them too! The details are just so intricate and lovely - I love when people want to look at my rings because the closer you look at them, the more beautiful surprises you see 🤩 Tbh, when I wear them I feel like they sometimes outshine my e-ring lol Just because people are so intrigued by the little hidden details

Well...not to sound superficial, but I want a decent sized stone and am also frugal. My heart and brain are fighting!
FH said when we go to the jeweler he will tell the jeweler his budget and to only show us rings in that price point - so I do need to chill LOL
I also have some shame-based baggage about money being spent on me :-( and there is a significant socio-economic gap between us - with him being further up the scale class ladder than I am. And sometimes that freaks me out LOL

My ring isn't true vintage but it is definitely vintage inspired. The setting came with a lab-grown sapphire but my FH has a family friend who is a jeweler and she offered to swap it out for a diamond.

My FH bought it online and I am happy to ask for the website if you are interested in seeing more of their work.

Not at all! My FH gets off work late tonight but I will ask him when he gets home and report back.

“My heart and brain are fighting” 😂 Do not feel superficial at all girl, there is no shame in wanting a large stone! Everyone has their preference on what looks beautiful, and also what looks beautiful on their hands! I also prefer a larger stone- and it’s not because of the cost or some sort of “show off status”, I just think it looks prettier on my finger 🤷🏼‍♀️ Plus, the bigger the diamond, the more it sparkles! 🤩 You are going to be wearing this ring every day, you have to love it!
If I were you, I would do some research on vintage rings available in your area or online. Get an idea of price on any rings you find that you love, then you can compare them to the rings you and FH look at at the jeweler. And if there are any vintage settings you find, make sure you find out the carat of diamond (or moissanite) it holds, and ask the jeweler what a stone that size would cost.
And also, enjoy the experience and don’t worry about FH making more money than you or spending more than you feel comfortable with! He knows his finances and he is the one setting the budget for what he feels comfortable spending. You just have fun getting spoiled! 💕

    I’m getting better at it!
I knew I had passed a milestone when we were in Target once (very close to my birthday), he asked “what kind of perfume do you like?” and I blurted out “nothing in here” and then felt shocked. He laughed so hard and told me he had never heard me say something like that ROFL
He came home a few days latter smelling like a perfume counter and I had some nice Chanel Coco perfume!

FH got a break between shifts so I have an answer sooner than I though I would!

    https://www.etsy.com/shop/ivyandrosevintage

The shop is Ivy & Rose Vintage on Etsy. She sells rings as blanks for quite a reasonable price (which is how my FH bought mine - see the I&R Designed Settings) but also has a number of options with stones already set in them. She also sells matching bands, in case you find a ring elsewhere and are struggling to find a band that fits with it.
