We just got engaged & are planning to marry in Sept. 2018 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. We have been seeing a lot of coverage lately re guests that have stayed at 5 star all-inclusive hotels, being drugged & a few have even died. Now the US has issued a warning re travel to Mexico, specifically Cabo San Lucas, Cancun & PDC, due to an increase in violence. We're now thinking to reconsider locations. Thoughts? We are supposed to sign our contract this weekend...

Thanks to all that have responded. I'm actually going this Sept. on a girl's trip & I'm not worried but my wonder is whether my guests will be.

I'm not so worried re the cartels & violehnce so wanted outside opinions as some of my friends have brought the topic up & are a little scared be - I've said that same thing to them though, that violence can (and does!) happen here. (I live in Oakland. It used to be horrific here but has cleaned up a lot.)

My slight "concern" is the tainted alcohol issue. I read an article re several cases happening since 2007. I've actually been to Riviera May 2xs since 2007 but never knew of these case and never saw anything. The article I just read shook me up a bit since they apparetly took place at several hotel chains, after 1 or 2 drinks, that most associate with as being safe(r)..

I never factored in Zika as a worry & I get bit all the time... Maybe some guests might decline due to its potential but I know most won't.

    Yes the weather!

Weather has been on my mind re it being hurricane season. I'm hoping for the best, obviously, and it is a gamble. I was in Jamaica last year at this time & DR the year prior in Oct. & both were hurricane periods. It rained a little but not much. I'm not too concerned & thinking positively... Fingers crossed though.

    Haha no

I went two years ago and I was 7 months pregnant! We went to Cabo tho

But it was very tourist oriented and felt totally safe. Obviously you don't leave drinks out and not pay attention

You don't walk down dark alleys.. don't walk alone... all the typical things. But wen we went lots of young kids and pregnant ladies. We are planning a trip to go back with our boy next year! He will be two
