Anyone using pandora for the reception

Lauren, on September 22, 2016 at 10:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 25

I don't have time to even think about making a cd so I'm thinking pandora is the easiest option. Has anyone used that? And what stations do you recommend?

I've used pandora for everyday life. For a wedding reception I'd be better to have a DJ who will make the music flow better and keep the crowd happy.

Are you planning on having dancing at your wedding or is this just for background music?

I wouldn't recommend having music playing through a phone or app. Hire a DJ. Professional DJ's know how to read the room, get people to dance, and create the desired atmosphere. Who will be MC-ing? Do you have someone announcing the bridal party and important moments (cake cutting, first dance, etc.)?

ETA: I see your wedding is this weekend. I guess my comment is irrelevant at this point.

Doesn't Pandora have commercials? We used Spotify (I have a paid account) and it worked out really well, but it was a small wedding. People danced and it was easy to use, but depending on your size of wedding and venue I would say a DJ would be better.

I listen to Pandora all day at work, everyday. It repeats songs so much. I would like more control over what songs are played personally.

Not too sure about pandora, but I know you can make your own playlist using Spotify premium.

Get Spotify and at least that way you can make a long playlist. Or several playlists, for ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. It won't be the same experience as having a DJ but obviously it's too late for that.

It's a very small reception with no dancing. Just for background music

I think Spotify is better for Pandora in this case, since you can choose the specific songs. We are not having a DJ for a number of reasons, and we are creating all of our playlists (welcome reception, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception) ourselves and then have hired someone to manage it. I used the WeddingDJ app on iTunes, which automatically cross-fades each song.

This sounds like a really bad idea. Pandora has commercials and you don't have control over what songs are played. You should have hired a professional DJ because there is much more to the job than just playing music. Who is going to handle the flow of the night? Announce cake cutting, speeches, introductions, the last song, etc. You can't program your special first dance or father-daughter dance into Pandora.

Like PP have said, Pandora re-plays many of the same songs after an hour or so. You are not going to want to keep going and having to change the stations. Also, Pandora has a ton of ads that play, and that would be extremely awkward for you guests. Why are you just now thinking of all this?!

I made my playlist on spotify. Pandora replayed too many songs for my taste.

I got Pandora pro without commercials ($4 a month) but I listen to it everyday and "train" it...as in you like or dislike a bunch.

I would not recommend it all for wedding. Even with years of "training" it sometime end up with really odd songs. For example, I am listening to easy listen station but one of the slow songs is from Aerosmith. I like it and next thing you know, they feed you a bunch of rock n' roll.

If you don't want to research songs, go to YouTube and look for a playlist. Use it for Spotify play list.

    Good luck.

    It's a 2 hour reception with 50 people I wouldn't get a dj for that...

@Jessinlove is spot on .... We also had a 50 person reception and needed background music. We paid for Spotify premium so we could make a play list. It really didn't take us that long. We both had been making notes of songs we wanted to include. Then we sat down one evening for like an hour and made the playlist.

Yours will probably be like ours ... we didn't need someone to make a grand entrance announcement - we just entered the dining room with our guests after the cocktail hour. When it came time for the 2 speeches that were given, we clinked glasses to get everyone's attention. When it came time to cut the cake, everyone was sitting at 6 round tables right in front of us and could easily see we were going to cut the cake.

I would go with Spotify if you aren't doing a playlist yourself
