Anyone travel on a plane with their wedding gown?

Laine, on October 9, 2012 at 5:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Jetblue does not have anywhere to hang it....I guess i could fold it and put it in the overhead or below me? Id probably feel more comfortable...

just seeing if anyone has done that WITHOUT hanging it with the attendants.

Mine is going in my carry on =) my dress is short though....I just don't want it checked and I'm not going to bother with trying to get them to store it for me

Depending on the fabric of your dress, it may need to be steamed after your trip. Also, if it is a big skirt, they may not let you bring it. Once on a jetblue flight, I sat next to a bride whose family members had chipped in to buy her a seat for the dress. It seemed like the only way to make sure your dress arrives unblemished, but it could be a pricey option :-/

I would put it in a suit case above the seats. wrap it in a clean white sheet so no suitcase color or anything gets on it.

Maybe in a garment bag you could check at the gate? Really I'd call JB and see what *they* say, cause they know the rules and what your particular plane offers.

It would not be a problem, I often put my coat over suitcases. people do it all the time. But I would want it in a suit case and get it pressed or steamed when I get there. You could also sent it in the mail? overnight it with insurance.

I carried my sisters wedding dress through three airports to Italy! Her dress store boxed it up for us and when we got there we actually went to the hotel laundry room and ironed it Smiley smile But if you can call ahead and find a good dry cleaner maybe to press it for you?

I would try calling Jet Blue first and they could give suggestions because people fly with dresses all the time. When I worked at the airport last summer I saw lots of brides with huge dress bags, but I never figured out how they transported it.

Perhaps if you have to put it in a suitcase or fold it up you could get it steamed once you reach your destination.

I'm having a DW & I'm flying on United Airlines. I'm bringing my dress is in the garment bag as a carry on along with my purse. I plan to have the flight attendants hang the dress in the closet and if there is no room they will lay it flat on top of the other suitcases. I plan on getting my dress steamed once we are at our destination. Most airlines are very nice when it comes to wedding dresses and deal with this all the time! Be sure to call Jet Blue to let them know but I'm sure no one will mind you laying your dress on top of their bags! Smiley smile

Thank you everyone! I am so frustrated...Jetblue wont do anything to help, and davids bridal cant box it up as they only have large boxes for multiple gowns.

I have decided I am just going to bring it with me and store it overhead, praying that this works...

My FH is amazing as a sidenote. He offered to drive me all the way down to Baltimore and then back the next day so I can transport the dress without this stress! 8+ hours each way!!!!

Be safe: wrap it in a sheet, then in a plastic bag, fold it into a carry-on bag, and make plans to have it steamed/ pressed at a reputable bridal salon at your destination just in case you need to.

I think I may have a solution...I am going to keep it in the garment bag, buy an XXL ziploc bag...I also purchased "even more speed/room" from jetblue; I get to go through a special security at line and I get priority boarding for the overhead bin.

    Fingers crossed!!

Oh you should definitely be fine then with priority boarding because you can talk to the flight attendants before everyone boards! Don't let it stress you out because I'm sure everything will work out fine! Smiley smile

Tip from the bridal salon I got my dress from: Turn the dress inside out and roll it up. It will fit into a carry on and won't harm the dress.

I would ask when you get to the gate. I flew with my dress on American Airlines (and normally, I'm not a fan) to Aruba and they let me have priority boarding to make sure my dress would have a space in the closet . I put it in a carry on for the return trip. If you have it in the dress bag, it should be fine. My poor husband carried it the entire way and it was pretty heavy but it didn't get dirty or really wrinkled.

I am just going to ship mine ahead of time. My brother lives in Hawaii so I am just going to ship my dress, girls dresses, fh clothes and all of our shoes. Is it possible to ship yours to a hotel or a relative who lives there? Then they can also hang it or take it to get steamed for you before you get there.
