Anyone having grandparents announced at the reception?

Michelle628 is now a Mrs!, on March 11, 2010 at 11:58 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

My mother brought up recently that I should have my grandmother announced at the reception along with the bridal party. I thought this sounded strange as I have never been to a wedding where this was done before. Is anyone having their grandparents announced?

I had my grandfather announced, as he is my only grandparent left, and he walked in with my Dad. I wouldn't have had it any other way!

I was planning on doing an anniversary dance, which would have let my grandparents as the last couple standing. But my grandfather is not in the greatest of health and would not be able to dance for that period of time.

I'm still doing the anniversary dance, but at the end will be giving them a bouquet while the dj announces that they've been married for 69 years.

I have seen this done at other weddings but I will not be doing it. Our grandparents are too old (some on oxygen) and it would just be too much to have them announced.

    Michelle,

Sometimes I will announce grandparents and parents at their tables in the banquet room before introducing the bridal party's procession. Depending on their health and the size of the wedding, they can stand at their places or give a wave or nod to the guests.

    Denise,

I've never met a couple that has been married for 69 years. That will be a very special Anniversary Dance. If possible, have your DJ ask them what advise they can give you and Ken on how to sustain a happy marriage for that long.

I have seen this done at a few weddings, and I always thought it such a thoughtful gesture. So often the parents have a pivotal role, but the grandparents just seem to be the "old folks" that hang on the fringe. It's nice when they get the recognition and honor they deserve.

Thank you so much everyone. My grandmother is actually the last grandparent but I wasn't sure if to announce her because she is in a wheelchair and didn't know if she would feel uncomfortable.

Denise....wow 69 years! That really is a special way to honor them!

Yep, 69 years this coming April. It is amazing what all they've been through in their lives.

Other than them, we've only got 2 grandmothers, all others have passed.
