Anyone have suggestions for making a bridal shower fun and not boring?

Marie, on February 27, 2015 at 5:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

I told my mom that I absolutely do not want a shower, but she said that is out of the question! I always find them a bit stuffy. Anyone do anything unique for theirs?

OMG me to. I hate showers and yes they are boring. I put my foot down on that issue. Just don't have one there's nothing going to make it fun. People will suggest those silly bridal shower games, but those are not fun.

Either don't have one or suffer through the bore that it is.

If you think outside the box u can have a fun shower. - for example a friend of mine had a shower at a -paint your own pottery place- we all picked out an item and painted it for her. they had some drinks and light snacks it was a good time and out of the ordinary.

Yeah I don't know how I feel about them either but everyone keeps insisting that they're necessary. I love the pottery idea! You could have everyone paint you a dessert plate or something.

My mom told me she was going to throw me a fancy luncheon at a winery or something similar instead of a "standard shower" with corny games and finger foods. I do not need "house stuff" so really all I said was a get-together would be nice.

Why do brides keep having them if so many people think they're boring?

I don't know about the pottery idea that's something I would do with my kids and have done with the girl scouts. The spa shower idea might be fun.

I don't want one either. Fh and I have been living together for 4 years now. We don't need any household stuff and having one just seems silly. And they are boring! If anything, I'd rather have a lingerie party. Way more fun!

Maybe you can have a non-traditional one such as the painting party with alcohol. I am not having one and didn't want one either; however, if I did have one it would be non-traditional.

Don't make people watch you open gifts for an hour?

We're doing a wine and herb tour for mine. No gifts, lots of alcohol, and plants! also a small group so winning all around.

We had a fancy shower in a private room at a French Bistro. No games. We ate, drank tea, socialized. It was a great time.

There is the challenge of the decade......I remember catering one shower where they did not open the gifts; everyone brought them with just a ribbon and a card, no paper, and they were displayed on a table for oooh's and ahhhh's .... I did another one where they had scheduled a chocolate and wine pairing as the 'activity'. Went over great. The chocolate guy married one of the guests and I got to marry them!

My bridesmaids threw my shower at a wine tasting room and restaurant. It was a cocktail party that was so fun and didn't feel bridal at all!

I threw my sister her bridal shower and included a build your own mimosa bar with fresh berries and assorted juices, etc. We also had a candy buffet. We did do some games, but we also had a craft table where the ladies pitched in to make keepsakes/ornaments/crafty gifts for the bride-to-be. Then we opened presents and whatnot. After two or three (or four..lol) mimosas, nobody seemed to mind a thing Smiley smile

I hate going to showers and therefore felt having one was absolutely necessary as payback for all the ones that I have had to endure.

    Alcohol always helps things

I agree with Maltese, we all just have to suck it up and sit through each others'. At least there is typically delicious food and booze. Wine and mimosas I am hoping will help! I like the idea of unwrapped presents! One of my BM's was joking we should have it at my apt and everyone brings the unwrapped gift and puts it away for you. I would love that...
