Anyone get water-based airbrush makeup?

About to be Mrs. Nic, on October 28, 2013 at 7:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

I am definitely going to get airbrush for my bridal makeup. Most of the places I've been speaking with near me use water-based airbrushed makeup. I haven't found many who use silicone-based. I've heard (and seen pics) that this provides a more "dewey" finish than the silicone-based airbrush. I'm concerned about my oily t-zone with the water-based. A lot of the makeup artists I've spoken with said my oily skin shouldn't be an issue with water-based, but I get really shiny in my t-zone really fast, so I'm not convinced. Im afraid I'll end up really shiny by the end of the night. Has anyone had any experience either way?

Omg haven't even thought much about make-up yet. Are you having a professional make-up session? I'm getting the impression that pre-wedding they "do you" and show you their techniques (and need to sell you their products) but on the actual day, you're on your own. Can I get a make-up artist to come to my house on my wedding day?

Deb- I can't figure out how to tag you so I hope you see this! You can absolutely get people to come to you on wedding day. It's a little pricier but a TON of people do it. A lot of places have a minimum so you'd prob have to have some attendants also getting hair/makeup done. How it generally works is you would have a trial (you usually pay for it) so you can decide ahead of time what you want/looks good. Sometimes you do a trial then decide if the artist a good match, or sometimes you already decide on an artist and do the trial as a prep so everything will be perfect on your big day. No worries - you have time to research!

I loved my airbrushed make-up! But, I have no idea if it was water or silicone based. I felt like it stayed on all night, didn't get too sweaty (during an outdoor July wedding), and didn't feel harsh or cake-y.

Thank you Mrs N! I'd be so excited & relieved to have someone come to me to relieve me if the stress of having to drive somewhere & to time it right!! How soon before the ceremony, etc. My 3 daughters will probably all want theirs done too.... Yike$$$..... but as you said, very likely so worth the money!! I'm very into make-up and have been told to be more dramatic b/c of photos, but I don't want to end up looking like a clown!!

Water-based foundation provides a matte finish. Silicone based foundation will resemble skin and is not matte. Silicone keeps the makeup supple and "bendable" so it doesn't settle into fine lines or crease and crack. Silicone is a water resistant product and silicone makeup is more water resistant than water-based.

Being more dramatic is not the key to wedding day makeup. You want to find a pro that can provide you with flawless makeup. HD cameras define every tiny detail including brush strokes, blemishes, etc.

You also want the makeup to last all night long. This is done with quality products and a professional application. There are specific products designed to control the oily and shiny areas of the face and a trained artist will know what is best for you.

Seek out a professional artist who is experienced in wedding day makeup. She should understand how lighting (both indoor and outdoor) affects the outcome in photography.

My MUA showed me the difference between silicon and water-based. The silicon base is much heavier, and the MUA only recommended it if there was some big flaws to hide (lots of acne, scars, etc). The water-based felt so light like it wasn't even there, I loved it. I don't have oily skin though so I would ask a MUA

Airbrush makeup should never feel heavy whether silicone or water-based. It should always feel as if you are not wearing makeup. If it does feel heavy, then something is amiss with the product or application method.
