Anyone else unhappy with hair trials?

happyinlove, on January 22, 2014 at 3:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

I have had two hair trials now both for a chignon style. I wasn't happy with either. I can't afford to keep having hair trials and I have already booked the stylist for the wedding day. I am thinking of giving up the look I wanted and just wearing it down and curled which I'm sure will look ok and then I wont need to bother with another trial. Anyone else have this problem? What did you do? Did you keep doing trials?

I haven't had any trial yet, but I want a chignon, too--are they really that hard?! Smiley surprise(

Depending on your contract with the stylist you booked, the easiest thing may be to go with another look. Have you told her what you don't like about it? Maybe she could give you a discount to try some changes to what she previously did? I feel like the whole point of the trial is to see if you like what you will be getting, and if you don't, then the money you've already spent is kind of wasted. Does she have a portfolio of styles she's proficient in that you could take a look at, that way you know what you will be getting?

Im wondering, Why would ya have to have multiple styles? I would just sit down and not let her leave until you guys come up with something...Does this hairstyle not look good because of how she did it or just the style on you in general??

If it didn't look good how she did it then you just have to change your stylist. You shouldn't have to give up how you wanted it because someone cant fully do their job. If you just didn't like the style in general then maybe just consider something else.

I had a make up AND a hair trial that went terribly. Was it the way she did it? Or you didn't like overall how it looked? Seems weird that this happened twice- shouldn't she have been your hostage until you were like, "Yep that's it!"?

Happyinlove I'm a hairstylist and I am sorry to hear that you're trials didn't go very well!

Does she have a portfolio that shows what she is strongest at? Also like the other lovely ladies said was it how she did the style that wasn't what you were looking for? Or just that it didn't suit your face and overall look? I've done my share of weddings and I understand how important it is. Most of all I'm surprised she still wants to charge you since you've already booked her and have had trials that you were not happy with. Like Kimber said "take her hostage". Seriously it is YOUR big day and hair is an important touch. I would also maybe suggest trying another style or perhaps find more pictures of the chignon from different angles (if you haven't already) just to give the stylist more visual to go off of. Just remember to BREATH and try to relax through all of this!

    Hope this helps!!

    Good Luck!

I literally had 4. I hated every single one. I didn't really like my hair on the wedding day either. I'm just really picky. I should have just done it myself. I felt like everything I said was totally miscommunicated to the stylists.

Chances are though you may just not like the style once it's on your head. Everyone's hair falls differently and a lot of pictures on pinterest are girls with a bunch of weave/extensions so it looks a lot fuller and voluminous. Natural hair just doesn't look like that. I would consider doing something you know looks good on you. If you hate your hair, you'll feel self conscious the day of and you'll hate your pictures.

My sister sort of went through this. My sister and I have been getting our hair cut by the same woman since we were born (until I moved away) and so naturally that's who my sister wanted for the wedding. Sadly our hairdresser was very ill and on bed rest and awaiting surgery so she couldn't do my sister's wedding. She recommended this other lady and me, my mom, and my sister got our hair trial. None of us liked what she did and we'd tell her we wanted one thing and she wouldn't listen. It was terribly frustrating. We told our original hair dresser and with all her might she pulled through and came for a couple hours to do our hair. But we didn't have a trial with her first which was stressful. If your hair dresser really isn't listening to what you want then I think you really should find someone else. You want to love your hair! If it's just the style you don't like as much then I'd try another trial, sorry you're going through this!

The two trials were with two different stylists. I didn't see either of their portfolios. One was a stylist attached to the makeup trial person I choose so I didn't know anything about her. The other was my stylist I have been going to for years. I only showed them photos and I may not have been clear enough about the look I was going for. I get the idea of "holding them hostage" but I really don't have the time! Hair trials take so long and I guess I feel defeated at this point. Thanks everyone for your feedback!

Because you've already had two with different people, are you sure they're not getting the hair right or that it just doesn't look the same on you? I seriously had the best idea for my hair, I loved the idea. I tried it at my trial and hated it on me. Ended up with smethjng different that I love.
