Anyone else have an heirloom ring or good story about your E-ring?

Audra, on January 8, 2012 at 11:56 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

My beautiful ring isn't an heirloom ring but I picked mine out. My FH's ring is an heirloom ring with a sweet story. His grandmother on his father's side is especially close to FH because her son (his dad) died in a motorcycle accident when he was a baby. FH's grandmother is divorced and took her wedding ring into a jeweler and had the stones removed. Then she let Johnny when he was still in college chose a Men's band style he liked best had had the jeweler set those diamonds in the band he chose. She had in inscribed, "Love Gma." And gave it to him when he graduated college. Smiley smile Makes me happy whenever I think about it. My ring was picked out at Andrews Jewelers.

Does anyone have an heirloom wedding ring or a special story of how you found your ring? (Not how he proposed). I could use some good stories.

Here's what I wrote in my profile about mine...

"Years ago, Roger's grandmother promised him something. That he could have her ring to give to his fiancee someday. This grandmother passed away before Breanne came into the picture, unfortunately. During the chaos of the death, some items were taken by an aunt of Roger's who was disliked from all around because of her selfish, cruel ways... one of them was the ring.

They didn't know this, though, until Roger mentioned wanting to propose to me.

His entire family back home, 3 hours away, searched high and low for the ring, but came up empty handed. Refusing to let it get them down, they looked through Grandma's other jewelry, and found pieces that had diamonds. They took them all, and brought them to the jeweler. Through cell pictures and phone calls they helped Roger pick the perfect base from that local jeweler, and put those diamonds into it."

that's the gist of it Smiley smile

My ring isn't an heirloom but my diamond is. I received a diamond ring from my grandmom after she passed away. The diamond was originally from my great grandmother's engagement ring and my grandmother had it reset. When I got the ring, my aunt proposed the idea of having it reset once again in my engagement ring and I immediately knew that that is what I would do.

It was no secret from my FH that when he did propose that I wanted to have my grandmother's diamond reset. So about 4 months before the proposal actually happened, we started looking for settings together. My FH did good and was the one who actually found my setting. It was hiding in the back corner of the case and he was the one who picked it out. He said he knew as soon as he saw it that I would love it, and I did. It has sapphires which are my birthstones, as well as blue being my favorite color. It has the split shank that he knew that I loved as well and beautiful carvings making it even more unique.

    I love it!

Audra, that is so sweet about your FH's band!

Breanne, that is great that his family worked so hard to make sure that he could still give you a ring that has just as much meaning to him! That is a great story!

I have my great grandmas ring. Back in the day she was engaged to this guy she loved him but was not in love with him. She met my great grandpa and fell in love. She told the guy about him and she went to gave the ring back He told her to keep the ring he bought it for her. When my great grandpa proposed he got her the same style ring. I have the ring from her first engagement. Even if it is not her ring from my grandpa I still love it. we have talked about putting a diamond back in the ring for my e-ring. (I lost the stone out of my e-ring)

When we started talking about rings, my fiancé's Granny said we could have anything out of her jewelry we liked. His mother found a nice setting of Granny's that had square-cut diamonds in it. We liked the setting, but not the diamond shape. His grandmother also used to wear three diamond studs in each ear (sm, med, large). We took one of the large ones and the two smallest ones and had Granny's jeweler order us the setting that his mom had found.

It came out great and I love that it has something from his Granny.

My now husband knew that I had my grandmother's engagement ring I wanted to get reset. But when he proposed, he didn't have it, so he used his great-grandmother's ring for the proposal (first picture). Later, we went and picked out a setting together where we used the diamond from my grandmother's ring. It was my dad's mother, and since my dad passed away four years ago, it's a small way he contributed to our day and life I like to think.

My ering my FH picked out and I love it, but my wedding band has a story (or will) I currently have my Great-Great Grandmothers wedding band and I am hoping to have it repaired/resized (its badly bent and 3 sizes too small) to wear as my wedding band. The cost is WAY more outrageous than we thought it was going to be so it also may have to wait. I LOVE the idea though.

My Fh's mother passed away three years ago from MS, and I was very close to her. She never had any daughters, only 3 sons. When the fh proposed I saw the ring and the diamond and almost fell over, it was so beautiful and unique..well about five minutes after he did it, his dad came up to me and whispered in my ear that the center diamond was my Fh's mothers diamond, and he knew she would be proud to have me wear it..We hugged and both cried. I then went and thanked the fh and we had tears together as well, which is a big deal for me because I am not an emotional person. I am so honored to wear her diamond on my finger, and I have gotten so many compliments on the ring and it's uniqueness and clarity. the Fh gave me the paperwork for the diamond, so I could get it insured, and it is a Vanity Fair diamond, which I am sure means something Smiley smile I have no real good pics of the ring yet..these don't do it justice
