Anyone else feel pressured to have a wedding that lives up to other people's expectations?

I have very simple taste and will also be cutting costs where possible (heavy plastic plates that look like china) but I worry about having a "good enough" wedding. Any advice?

Nope. I focused on what's best for us and our budget/likes/dislikes. Either way I end up marrying the man I love.

My fiancé keeps reminding me that it's OUR wedding that WE are paying for which means we can do whatever we want Smiley smile in the end, I get him and that's all I really care about

I can relate to how you feel. I have been having this feeling since we got engaged.

My fiancés brother is also engaged and they are getting married 10 months after us. We are more laid back and don't make as much money as they do but through the whole process I've been wondering if it's going to be good enough for his family especially since his brothers fiancé and I do not get along and she will make it into a contest to have everything better than our wedding

Plenty of times. Alot coming from people saying what you "have to have or do". I try to ignore it and think "did I plan on doing it", chances are decisions were already made. I dont have to have anything but my FH, an officiant, enough seats, and food.

I wonder if younger brides feel the expectations more. I was 35 when I got married - and when you're in your 30s, you care a lot less about what others think/expect.

E-Tex, I'll be 26 when I get married. I don't feel this pressure and I have a really strong Italian family with many opinions about what "needs to be done." I just nod my head and do whatever the hell I want when they leave.

If people are disappointed then they aren't there for you and your FH to celebrate your love.
