Anyone chopping their train off?

Just curious. My seamstress offered this as an option during my first fitting, and since my second is this Saturday, figured I should possibly find some sort of answer. Just curious. My seamstress offered this as an option during my first fitting, and since my second is this Saturday, figured I should possibly find some sort of answer.

The two main reasons I'm considering it are:

1) it is an outdoor wedding, in a National Forest which means pinestraw, pinecones, sweetgum balls, and there is lichen EVERYWHERE, plus your usual suspects small twigs, leafs etc.

2) I hate the hassle of a bustle. If there were no train, no one would have to be trained on how to do it.

Added plus? It will save me around $75 in alterations since I'll need a multiple point bustle.

Thoughts? Will I miss it if it is gone?

NO way in hell would I do that to my dress, It s part of what sold me on that dress! That , and the lace jacket. http://www.marysbridal.com/bridal.aspx?i=5703

Then again, I am getting married indoors in a 100 year old church.

I'm having mine removed. While I think they can be beautiful on some...it's just not for me.

A sweep will not likely trial *too* much stuff, but you could ask the seamstress to pin up the dress to hide the train, so you can decide if you like it without. That's likely the easiest way to get a sense of whether you'll like it completely gone, or if you want to go with a sweep.

Chop, chop, chop, it's coming off! I just didn't want th organza picking up all the yard debris (grass, mulch, ex)

I don't want a train either - I haven't found my dress yet but if it's not expensive and you're worried about it catching on things outdoors, I say chop it off!

I did. I really really really dislike bustles. I think they're frumpy.

There was also some detailing in the skirt that would have been lost in a bustle anyway.

I did and I didn't regret it. I never wanted a train in the first place and the dress I bought could have been specially ordered without one but I purchased it too late. I was much happier not to have to deal with that the night of the wedding.

    Thanks homies!

I'm going for my second fitting on Saturday, and I will have her pin it up so I can see. She folded it under at the first fitting and I really liked it. So we shall see! I'll keep you updated.

You can chop it off, and make it into a detachable train. with little snaps. that way you can have it to walk down the aisle then unsnap it for the night

P.s. I decided to keep the train.

I guess I'm in it to win in now!

I've just come back from my first session with the seamstress. She was VERY reluctant to cut the train and, as said in a comment above, kept pinning up a few inches at a time! The thing was I never wanted a dress with a train but when I bought it the sales assistant said it would be no problem to have the train pinned up at the back like a bustle which I absolutely loved. However, today when we tried it, it just didn't look right. I really had to be strong as the seamstress really didn't want the train to go (!) and was worried that I would lose all the beading detail which was near the edges. I said I would rather have a plain bottom (lol!) than drag a big train with beads. We pinned it shorter and shorter until basically 90% was gone leaving just a small 'puddle' on the floor which I really like.

    Hey Jackie!

I did end up keeping my train. Honestly, I'm so glad I did, solely for pictures, they turned out amazing! I bustled it as soon as the ceremony was over, and I never thought of it again.
