Anyone bought insurance on their engagement ring?

Katie, on March 27, 2019 at 8:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29
I'd like to do this ASAP. Can anyone recommend an insurance agency to use??

I've done some Google searches, but I'd really love first hand experience.

If you (or FH) own your home, it can get added to that policy.

We have renter's insurance for our townhouse and added the insurance for the ring onto that.

Lol this seems the most common. I suppose we could look into renters insurance, instead of doing strictly the ring. Might as well.

Does your policy cover theft if it happens outside the home? This is my biggest worry!

We did jewelers mutual! They cover the cost of the replacement if it’s lost.

The company I bought my ring through recommended Jeweler’s mutual. It was really easy to sign up and the premium is pretty cheap.

I lost my ring last year and we had it insured through Jewelers Mutual. They were fantastic (definitely worth the highest premium) but dropped us after I got my new one. FH now has my ring bundled with his home owner’s insurance with State Farm. I’m not sure how it works if it is stolen/lost not in the home but I would assume they don’t only insure for home invasions for that type of object!

Schedule it through your homeowners or renters policy! If you rent and don’t have a policy open one - it’s like $10/month.

I used to to work in insurance claims and it’s 100% worth it to have. You’ll need an appraisal on your ring to finalize it.

If it’s scheduled it should be covered even if you lose it. Just make sure you update the appraisal every year or so. I’ve seen so many people not resend the appraisal for years and the ring then isn’t insured for the actual value that it costs to replace.

Awesome, i just started an online application. I have damage insurance through Shane Co on all the stones, but it doesn't cover loss or theft. I'm hoping I can get a slight discount as I'd obviously go direct through the jewler if it was only damaged. But if not, that's alright. Thank you!

Jewelers Mutual. They cover the full replacement cost of your ring, not a depreciated value. They cover for any reason... lost, stolen, damaged, just plain can’t figure out what happened to it... It’s covered. Their rates are really good too.

I have Jeweler's Mutual. It covers loss, damage, theft, mysterious disappearance, and worldwide travel. I've heard some other insurance plans aren't as comprehensive.

Unless jewelry is different, it should be covered under your renters insurance. My sister has state farm renters AMD had her car broken into. The renters insurance covered her stolen property from her car. Her car was not at home either.

I have mine on a personal articles policy through State Farm (I work for State Farm). I had it originally on a jewelers mutual policy but once I added more jewelry to that policy it skyrocketed the premium. With state farm’s policy my jewelry is covered anywhere in the world for accidental loss, theft, & damage. Make sure if you’re adding jewelry to a homeowners or renters policy that it’s fully covered and that it’s not subject to a high deductible! If I were to have added my ring to my renters policy it would’ve been a $1,000 deductible, only covered $1,500 of my ring, and only for perils covered by the renters policy itself (it didn’t include accidental loss or damage).

My rings are also covered under a personal articles policy with State Farm, who we have our homeowners insurance through. It costs us less than $7/month with all of our discounts.

I am not even sure how this works but FH said he tacked on my ring insurance with the same insurance of our house. He also said it's insured for more than what it's worth so should it ever get lost/stolen I could get a pricier ring lmao. I was like okay then...

Yes, my fiance did prior to proposing. I'd go for full coverage, then it not only covers if it's lost or stolen but also if you lose a jewel or damage it or whatever! We just added ours to our Farmers home owners insurance.
