Anyone a fan of the choreographed first dance

Danielle, on May 14, 2015 at 12:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

I asked fh if he wanted to do a choreographed dance like 1 we made up nothing fancy just fun, he's a party pooper and said no. I was like well that's not fun then I thought well I still can with my bridesmaids so I decided right after our 1st dance go into a lip sync concert type thing to whatta man by salt and pepper. Do you think it's cute or cheesy? Is anyone else doing a dance with fh or bridesmaids?

I think it's weird and embarrassing...for the bridal party and for the guests.

FH actually wants to do a choreographed first dance! He's not much of a dancer, but said it would be cute since no one would expect it from him.

The lipsync idea could be cute! I just have a hard time seeing how to segue it from your first dance?

Nope. Don't want to do one. Don't want to watch one.

I think some are excecuted well. FH and I didn't want to sway for 3 minutes straight, so we have been practicing a few spins and a dip.

I think your idea is cheesy, but it's just not my style so to each their own.

Its cute for 15 seconds. Then its long, awkward and embarassing. FMIL sent FH a video of a mother/son doing one and said lets do it. I told FH our wedding is not a show. Nope! Nope!

Unless it's something cultural/traditional, I'm not a super fan. But it's one of those things that if the bridal party is all into it and you really want it, then do you Smiley smile As a guest, I'd think it was cheesy but there are always things at weddings that aren't quite your style. ETA: I agree with e=mc2 that adding basic dance moves to your first dance is totally great.

My personal opinion, take it with a shaker of salt. First dance with FH and you that is choreographed can only be cute if you are dancers. My cousin and his wife did one, it was amazing but that is literally what they do, anything else would have been a let down. Then again, it lacks a lot of feeling because it's all laid out, not a lot of room for emotion. And I'm not a fan of BP dances. At all. It's never good, always awkward and embarrassing.

I enjoyed my choreographed ballroom dance.

I dunno....I feel second hand embarrassment for other people. That's the kind of thing that unless you're a perfomer-type that doesn't go well.

Depends which type. I'm not a fan of the flash mob style/boy band type of choreographed dance but FH and I are taking lessons and have the moves we are going to do choreographed because we didn't just want to stand there and sway. I think those are super different.

Well done choreographed dances (that are already set dances- like mother son, father daughter, first, etc) are fine because they're going to be dancing anyway. I don't know why people feel the need to add in another dance. Your guests are already going to be sitting and staring while probably wanting to party for a good 9-15 minutes not including the transitions between the songs...

@Catherine I was thinking the same thing I was thinking after our first dance he would think it was time to sit and then the song would come on and my 2 BMs would come up I told them we would wear the big chains and hoops like they did in the 90s so they would bring it to me and I would put mine on during the intro so that's how we could transition I guess. It's in the works...lol I just really think it's a fun idea

It's one of those things that is hard to do well, unless you're all very coordinated and are all awesome at dancing I would rethink it, it's just awkward when it's not done well.

FH is a reeeeeally bad dancer so we thought about taking a few classes to learn a choreographed dance, like salsa or swing but it won't work out with time and money. So instead we're doing a short 1 1/2 minute song for our first dance to take the pressure off of him.

Well we aren't doing any parent dances for different reasons but I think it's a fun idea, to me it doesn't have to be serious all the time so those typical dances you go learn if it's not executed right then what? We are going to do a typical first dance then transition to this not a different session but it's a thought I'm seriously thinning of I love to have fun I think people would think it's cute

People would tell you it was cute, but most probably wouldn't be thinking it

SUPER awkward. Embarrassing instead of cute. Only way it would be cool is if the couple were actually professional dancers.

We are doing one and are really excited to do it! We love to dance!! But for these particular dances we are taking classes. So excited to surprise everybody, especially our parents! I love Whatta Man, but some of the lyrics are a little explicit for a wedding.
