Mrs. Castig, on July 23, 2013 at 9:34 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

I was just wondering how long does it take you to find out if you can get days off work ? I have someone who said two month ago they put in for their days off for my wedding but have not heard anything yet, Is this possible?

I do believe I've actually heard this from someone who worked at wal-mart, that it took forever for them to get it back. Wal-mart, from the sound of it, isn't run very smoothly when it comes to taking care of their employees.

I worked at Target in high school. I was only part time, but the way it worked for me is they would do the scheduling for two weeks at a time & you would know two weeks in advance. In other words, if you wanted a day off you had to request a month in advance & they would work around the schedule. If you didn't put in your request in time you would have to find someone to trade shifts with you. Maybe they put their request in two months ago, but the schedule for September hasn't come out yet?

I work in retail (though not at Wal-Mart) & we have to put in our request about a month beforehand. With our new system, we find out if it was approved or not within a week or two, but before that we would just have to wait for the schedule to come out :/

I've worked at Walmart for almost 6 years. To request a day off, the associate must request it 3 weeks in advance. However, the sooner they request it the better. If another associate in that department asks off before your friend...the other associate will get that day off and your friend will probably not (sometimes they can find others willing to cover, but very rare that two associates get off the same day UNLESS it's a big department with a lot of people). Also, stores have BLACK OUT dates, meaning no associate can request off without approval from store manager. Black out dates vary by store.

As far as knowing whether or not the day off was accepted it varies among stores...and among managers. I've had managers that have approved days off 6 months in advance (as soon as i requested). Or they could approve 2 weeks before.

I'm PRAYING my store lets me have days off for MY OWN wedding. My wedding will fall under BLACK OUT dates, and so will the first chunk of my honeymooon.

Also, I will agree with what someone said up there about not taking care of their employees. It's a hit and miss....depends on if you are on someone's good side at the time. Quite frankly though, it shouldn't be a problem if they requested this early. If they do run into a problem, I'd raise hell.

I work there and its a NIGHTMARE to get time off....they want you to put it in as early as you can but 97% of the time they won't look at it and approve/decline it till the Saturday before the schedule comes out.

I'm constantly saying, how can you makes plans if I have to wait till the schedule comes out **and they only come out 2 weeks in advance*

Target isn't any better to work for than Walmart. I have a family member that has worked at both, and left Target for Walmart.

Angela, have you spoken to your management team? Talk to your department manager, talk to the assistant manager over your area. Make sure personnel knows. Some management teams are better than others, I hope you have good people over there.

Angela I am right there with you!

I can't wait for October 12, but I think I will be happy to see October 13!

Maybe her Wal-Mart is different then the one my friend worked for. I don't understand how they can say September is Christmas Season seriously kids just went back to school and there is Halloween and Thanksgiving in between Sept and Dec.... I can understand November but 3-4 months before hand is pretty ridiculous in my opinion!

I would just have her talk to management ASAP and tell the she is in a wedding and the date is booked in stone.

You know at this point, I am so stressed I just want to stand up there by myself. My sister can't decide on a dress. Her DH said he took her to 3 place and she must have tried on 50 dress. She thinks she looks fat in everything, get over it we are meaty women, pick a dress. The grooms tried on their shirts yesterday and the BM's shirt is to little, he told me the wrong size. I spent the whole day looking for another shirt same color a same style in his size, I can't find one no where. By the end of yesterday I was ready to kill somebody.

I should not have to stress this much over my family and friends standing up with us..

I've worked for Walmart for 12 years, I've never had a problem getting time off. I'm a planner so I've always had my time put in 3 weeks in advance or more like they want. We do have black out dates but if you go to your mgr or the store mgr and your not asking for ridiculous times like thanksgiving, Christmas, day then there shouldnt be a problem. Also before putting it in talk to your other associates and see if there willing to cover those days and then go to your mgr and say hey so and so said they would cover theses days so I could have off for wedding. Walmart is not a difficult places to work for. The people who work there make it difficult. Besides that mgr also look at your call in, tardiness, and your work ethnic.
