Anybody else fighting the urge to elope?

Mert F, on March 1, 2017 at 9:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

Anybody else a little overwhelmed? We started out planning for April 2017 then my sister said she was pregnant so I pushed it back so the baby would be a little older. We chose Vegas bc his family lives in NY and mine live in MS, and the midpoint was Kentucky... which didn't seem like a place many would want to travel to. Even though it's Vegas we're still going traditional so like.. 20k for 50 people (including everything: hotel stay, flights and some extra events in Vegas as our honeymoon for the following few days) I keep telling myself that it's going to be fun and it's just one day, not like we're going to pay this much for any other party in our lives. *sigh* Somedays I just wanna elope and then go back home and have a party with our families. The only issue with that is either we'd still be in Kentucky... or We'd be having 2 separate parties where our families don't meet. I don't really have a question.. just venting..

Eloping seems nice for the pocketbook and family drama..ive considered it fleetingly. It would make my family so upset though

I actually just presented my case for eloping about an hour ago to FH. We would be going from a $10-15k wedding to a $800-2k wedding depending on what we did with the elopement. He agreed to think on it because he's the one afraid of pissing people off with going through with it. To me, it's incredibly worth it. Haha.

We put down all kinds of deposits on vendors (some paid in full) and we decided after a year of wedding planning to forgo the larger wedding and elope at our county courthouse. It was the best decision we could have made!

Now that I'm in the process of buying a home, there are definitely times where I think - gosh, imagine if I put all that money for the wedding towards the deposit and just eloped. I think it's normal. It's a lot of money!

But at the end of the day, I wanted my dad walking me down the aisle, the father- daughter dance, the toasts etc. I wasn't willing to sacrifice that

We are eloping, so I'm all for it. But if I were you, I'd want to make sure that I wouldn't regret it later.

Our family situation is shitty so we don't care who we piss off. But if you're close with your family, I'd make sure that you're 100% okay with this forever.

I felt like eloping was the better choice when trying to find our venue... but since we had found one, i don't think about it as much Smiley winking

We're having a small ceremony in our church with a cake and punch reception immediately afterwards in our fellowship hall with our friends and family but it still feels so overwhelming. I'm to the point of scraping it all and quietly getting married and surprise everyone.

I would totally elope. Absolutely. I'm Catholic though.....so it's complicated hahaha

But nothing sounds better than flying to Hawaii and doing a elopement package! Just me and FH on a beach.....

@Natalie...eloping on a beach was exactly what I wanted. But we've got a great relationship with our pastor and she is so excited for us that we decided to have her officiate the ceremony.

Yes! My FH wants to go to courthouse. Our original date was 9/9/17; we recently moved it back to 8/18/18; our venue is still booked along with DJ and photograph but sometimes I think about eloping.

It's starting to feel like every time we tackle something and cross it off the list, something else pops up and it's exhausting. I wanted to elope when we first got engaged, but FH insisted that I would regret it. I agreed with him but more and more lately I'm wishing I had put my foot down and we had just gone and gotten married on a beach somewhere lol

My FH and I decided that we are going to elope out of state and enjoy a week on the beach without the stress. We were already planning on having a small ceremony in the mountains with just our immediate families and then have a party a few nights later. My mother and one of my bridesmaids were making this SO stressful. So.. We're eloping! I couldn't be more excited and a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. I say if you won't be out any money - go for it! We are still having our party when we come back as the venue is already booked and, well, we like to party.

I would love to elope. The only reason I don't is because I'm the last daughter to get married and my dad would be devastated if I did.

I'm in the final stretch...so elopement thoughts have definitely diminished. In the throes of planning and getting quotes though...yeah, I definitely thought about it.
