Anybody do the "size smaller" gamble with their wedding dress????

I bought a dress that fit but now I've gained 10lbs. I haven't even picked the dress up yet because I'm afraid I won't be able to fit it. I really need to lose 15lbs for the dress to fit comfortable. I need to get it together.

I did the exact same as Vanessa! I tried on the sample 8 and it fit perfectly (but that's also probably because it was stretched a lot from everyone trying it on)....she measured me for a 10-12 though, and I went with the 12 because of the way the dress is, it can be easily taken in but it's much harder to take out.

I feel like the only reason to order down a size is if you know for a fact your weight was up during your measurements for some abnormal reason, and you know you'll never be that size again. I've lost weight since my fitting, and I would much rather them have to take it in then have them take it out

I ordered the size I needed and the dress sample fit very well. I figured if I lost weight I would have it taken in..I have lost 2 pounds so I don't think I have to worry..Hopefully. ...very few alterations will need to be done...

I did! Just bought my dress 2 weeks ago. I have about 60lb I want to lose. Is that realistic in 6 months? Probably not, but I do know ill at least be a size smaller. So that's what I did, was buy 1 size smaller. I wouldn't go any further then 1 size. Easier to take in then let out.

When you try on the samples they have been stretched out just like a pair of jeans you have worn all day. So most likely a 6 in a sample is going to fit bigger than a 6 in the dress that is new. I would always order the bigger size so it can be altered if needed.

@MJ good point! thanks for the replies ladies! I've learned some good stuff... Im going dress shopping next week -- eek!! Hopefully it all goes well....... I'm really impatient when I go shopping lol

I am with the others who say they probably should have ordered a size smaller but didn't! I didn't want that added pressure and knew it could always be taken in.. .Luckily, I got a corset back so it doesn't need to be taken in, but if I were to lose any more weight I'd be in trouble because when I put it on, they had to tie it as tight as it could just to get it to stay on because I lost a full dress size. I bought a strapless bra to wear just in case I need a little extra padding up top to keep things on, and will be bringing double sided tape as well!!!

I ordered my dress smaller than recommended and I would NOT recommend doing it! They wanted me to order a size 20, but I ordered a size 16 because I would lose the weight. I panicked every day that it wouldn't fit. I was having nightmares and nervous breakdowns over it. I lucked out and it fits like a glove and only needs a hem and bustle, but it wasn't worth it.

I took the gamble and I don't think it will turn out very nicely. I was in between a 12 and 14, needed to lose about 5lbs to get in the 12. I was at my heaviest at the time and working out regularly. wellll I fell off the healthy dieting/exercise wagon and ended up gaining another 10 lbs. working hard to get the weight off, but with the wedding in a few months... I'm heading to the bridal salon to see what my options are. I tried on a sample 14 on saturday and it was snug. Doing everything I can, but it will most likely not be enough.

I fell in between two sizes, so I got the half size smaller. But I also have a corset back so there's wiggle room there!

I was in between sizes, and of course the lady at DB didn't believe that part of it was holiday weight (this was end of January) and that I was starting a serious diet and exercise routine so she talked me into ordering the bigger size. When it came in I had already lost 10lbs and it was at least a whole size too big already. They ordered another dress for me one size smaller because they said there is no way my dress can be altered more than two sizes. Now I've lost 18lbs with four months to go until the wedding!! I tried it on yesterday and there is a lot that needs to be taken in already. It's weird but I'm stressing that my dress will be too big! It's a fitted dress so I don't want to look funny because its not tight enough but I also don't want to not lose the weight because I want to look the best I can on my honeymoon!!!

I got the recommended size. My hips and waist were one size, and my boobs the next size up. I got the dress, and it was even too big for my boobs, even though it was supposed to fit them. I would have been safe with the smaller one. The seamstress is taking off over 1" of material from both sides. I am at a consistent weight, and have always been happy with it, so I'm not worried about it changing. Can't wait to see the dress again in April!

OK so apparently I'm the oddball

The dress I bought is too small. I bought it off the rack. It was truly the only dress I loved while shopping and I went A LOT of places. It does not zip all the way up, with about a three inch gap at the top of the zipper. It zips almost halfway that's it. So what's a girl to do? Take it to the seamstress and have a corset back put in...that's what! I didn't buy it small for weight loss reasons, and losing weight will not help the issue because the problem is that my ribcage is too wide! I have no extra chub in that area at all.

So yeah you could say I took that risk...but in a different way I suppose because I didn't order my dress.

I did the opposite, I bought a dress that fit me like a glove 6 months and 45lbs ago. I'm losing an average of 10lbs a month as of lately and when I tried it on for the second time half way through that 45lb loss it already needed a good 2 inches taken in. I'm hoping that when it's altered to a corset it will not mean taking away too much of the detailing to have it fit properly again

I tried the dress on twice in store before I bought it and had gone down a size. I could've bought the larger size for safety, but I bought the smaller size that just fit to keep myself motivated. When I picked it up, it was just right. Now I've lost an extra 10 lbs, so I should be okay

Heck no! I did however get a corset style backing (which is my favorite type of backing on a dress). I didn't know my dress size anyways.

I did and now i'm screwed, there is no way that dress will fit in two months! Even having lost 36 pounds since I tried it on, so now i'm out $1000 bucks and have a beautiful Alfred Angelo Cinderella 205 that I don't think i'll be able to wear Not happy and trying to find the same dress on Ebay because I don't want to spend another $1000, not to mention another one wouldn't come in time.

I went to try it on right after I had the baby and the 12 fit perfect so I got a 10 knowing I would lose weight in 18 months well I lost 63 pounds and it still doesn't fit. I don't understand why. Not to mention. I wear a size 6 dress so why is this 10 not fitting?

Ugh , this is beyond stressful ! How did it turn out ? Asking because @ 5 months pregnant the size 10 sample was tight in the bust area . They talked me into ordering a size up & @ 6 months pregnant it is HUGE . Debating if I should order the 10 because it fit perfect everywhere , except being tight in the bust . this is my last baby & I always go back to my size , or should I just keep the 12 & have it altered down a size to be safe . On the 10 , I felt as if I only needed the bottom hemmed & would save a lot in alterations .

I haven't ordered my dress et but if I were measured and I was between sizes I'd probably go for the bigger of the two sizes. I'd rather have a dress I can alter to fit me than a dress that is too small for me and have to spend extra money to try to fit into it or worst, having to purchase another one.
