Any teachers get married during the school year?

I teach elementary school and I'm getting married in April (during our spring break). I'm guessing I will still go by Ms. Maiden Name for the rest of the school year since it'll only be for 2 months or so. But curious if anyone else had their students start calling them their new Mrs. Lastname...

Both my current last name and FH's last name start with the same letter and the both only have 4 letters (actually, only 1 letter difference! Kinda funny)-- so it won't be a huge change anyway!

I worked at an elementary school and one teacher got married in the middle of the year. She changed her name, but she taught 5th grade, so those kids were older and able to understand better. I know she had to do a lot of reminding to the younger kids though!

I'm a teacher but there was no way in hell I was going to get married during the school year. Besides the time constraints and stress, I wanted to be able to take our honeymoon right away.

I'm getting married over Christmas break (NYE) and won't make my students call me by my new last name. I'll probably give them the option and see what goes from there. I'm a special education teacher so I'll just be flexible to what they refer to me as. It'll definitely be weird be called a MRS for the first time!

I teach 5th grade and will be going by my new name after the wedding in November. I assume many kids will still call me by my maiden name and am okay with that. I have been Miss Maiden Name at my school for 13 years. It will definitely take awhile to transition completely.

I'm getting married in November. I just plan on explaining it to my class. It's a teachable moment. Of course some will slip up and call me by my maiden name. There's nothing wrong with that! But I do plan to introduce it to them. No need to shelter them from it.

I'm a teacher and getting married in the summer. So I'll just start the new school year with my new last name. I'm sure I'll still get Miss Oldlastname from former students though. Jealous of you all who are getting married in the spring. FH and I didn't want to wait until the summer but my spring break is short and is almost always cut down due to snow days. Plus it's right around standardized testing times. Sooooo summer wedding it is!

Im teaching and Im getting married in April too. Im gonna just let them call me by my maiden name for the rest of the year its too confusing for elementary students. I still slip and call our librarian by her maiden name every once and a while. Lol

@Lauren G. I had a Mr. AND Mrs. Myers in high school - very teachery name Smiley smile hahaha

Fortunately, I won't be running in to this problem as I teach high schoolers and will be getting married in the summer.

I've had a bunch of coworkers get married during the year and the kids are always much better at remembering the new name than the adults are. They've always switched names mid year.

I teach kindergarten and will be getting married over spring break. I'm telling my kids about it a little at a time but I will tell them about my name change. I expect to get a mix of maiden and new name and that's just fine with me. I agree there's no need to shelter them from it. Plus my older students know about me being engaged and come in all the time asking if I got married yet so they'll be excited for it too

I teach music to Pre-k 2 through 5th grade. I'm not even mentioning my wedding to the preschoolers. They'll just have to be weirded out next year when their teacher has a different name but looks the same. At the elementary school, I had intended to only tell the older kids now, telling the younger ones right before Christmas that I was getting married and my name was changing. However, what with older siblings and a few observant second graders, I already have half the school trying to call me my future name, while another good-sized chunk is firmly Team Maiden Name. The kinders and first graders are still oblivious, for the most part, however, and I haven't really decided if I'm going to have them change what they call me or not.

I'm an elementary teacher and I'm getting married in May. We will likely take a minimoon after the wedding, and a real honeymoon during summer vacation.

If both last names start with the same letter can you just go by Mrs x all year? May be easier

I am! I teach High School and am getting married in October Smiley smile

Most of my students know i'm getting married (I have a lot that I had last year for 10th grade chemistry, and again this year for 11th grade chemistry). I'll be gone for 5 days so will tell them my new last name when I get back. I have a feeling the kids I've taught a while will still call me "Ms. Allison" for a while, and my new kids next semester may catch the "Mrs. Godshaw" sooner.... but i'm not too picky. It will be interesting to see what happens though!

Side note: I'm not changing my school emails and such until the summer. I don't want to deal with new emails and logins during the school year... district nightmare!!!

I'm getting married in November and switching last names at semester. I may order extra wedding favors and give them to the kids, because my new last name is Starkey and we're giving star keychains out. It'll be a fun way to introduce my new name.

I'm a garden teacher, so I have all 90 kids in my small private school once a day.
