Any other tomboy brides out there? Having trouble liking dresses...

Tracy, on January 21, 2012 at 3:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I very rarely wear a dress. In fact, it's usually when I dress up for someone else's wedding. And it's usually cocktail length and fun.

SHopping for dresses, I'm having a terrible time liking ANY dress. I found one I kind of liked yesterday (there's just 1 detail on the back I'm not thrilled about). I could tell my mom didn't like the dress. I don't have long before my wedding.

Have any of you settled on a dress that was just so-so, for fear that you'll never find one you adore?

I am the same way Tracy. My FH and I are having a rustic vintage theme wedding because I want as less traditional as possible. I am a country girl. I ended up finding a bridesmaid dress that is a goldish color for $16 and I love it. I hate wearing dresses and getting dressed up in constricting outfits, if I could I would wear jeans and t shirt but I cant do that for my wedding LOL

The most important part about your dress is that YOU like it and you feel comfortable in it, because after all you are the one that has to wear it and its your wedding.

Good luck to you, and congrats

I spend a lot of time in steel toes and a hard hat.

I wanted to rip each train off every time I tried on a dress with one. Small bridal stores said they could cut the train off, and hem it to above my feet (so I wouldn't drag a dress in the sand.)

I wound up liking t-length dresses the most. I purchased a short dress and absolutely LOVE it.

I wasn't always crazy about too many sequins all over, but wound up liking lace.

I didn't have that "OMG" moment that I've seen other brides have (including my BFF a few years ago) but I am excited for my dress.

I get it. Not everyone will have that moment. I am a tomboy myself. I ended up loving a dress I never thought that I would, I hope you find something you at least like and not something you are settling for.

Glad to hear I'm not the only anti-princess out there. No beef with princesses, I just missed that gene somehow.

Well, I go shopping in an hour...here's hoping...

It'll be ok. I'm a girly girl, but I don't consider myself a princess type. There are a lot of different dresses, because there are a lot of different women in the world. You'll find one you like. Don't worry about having "the moment" when dress shopping. A lot of us don't burst into tears or anything. You might, but you might just really really like it a lot.

I am a total tomboy but ended up absolutely falling in love with a 'princess' dress lol. However I am considering flats because heels DEF aren't my thing. SO you aren't alone at all. It took a few months to find something that I loved. And I tried on various styles, mermaid a-line, everything. SO its okay. And you don't have to be traditional. Find something YOU like Smiley smile

You are not the only one..I did not want a bedazzled gown, and I wanted something very simple. I have shoulders like a linebacker, so I needed somthing that complimented them. The first few dresses I tried on I absolutely HATED..I was not comfortable in many styles, but I ended up finding one that I really loved..simple satin gown with very minimal sparkles, and comfy. I am a bowhunter, and I love to fish, so I guess you could say I am a bit of a tomboy..you will find one you like..I promise Smiley smile

Oh and one other thing..I HATED white on me, so I went with Ivory.

Nope, there's a lot of us out there! I wasn't majorly excited about trying on dresses. I know some girls like to go in and "play dress up" as they call it....I'm not one. I'm just like get me THIS dress so I can try it on. Period! lol. I did finally find one that I liked. I didn't have the "dress moment" or anything. I was just like, yeah I like this one, let's order it. Haha!

And I'm with Devin on the flats. I NEVER wear heels....why would I want to wear them on a day that I will have to be in them for hours, then my feet hurt...blech! I got a great pair of flats that are SUPER comfy for the wedding!

Ohhhh that was me. I play in the mud everyday and I said if you put bling on my boobs Im gonna kill you...

I did find a dress though that I loved that was train-less and bling-less and had an earthy/organic feel...

    Good luck!

Have you tried any tea length gowns? I'm not super girly either and when I was designing my gown I wanted to make something grandiose and princessy at first, but it just wasn't me. I fell in love with vintage tea lenght gowns and designed a very rock and roll tea length dress in the end- never what I would have expected to get married in.

I'm not a tomboy but I am an anti-princess too lol! I think last year the single only day I wore a dress, was in fact my wedding day.

What was the dress that you somewhat liked like? Perhaps we can help you find something similar? Another thing is that I really don't think the wedding dress is the most important part of your wedding. Sure, you need something you like and you're comfortable in, but I think the whole thing with the *moment* when you realize it's the one and crying and all that is a hype. Great if it works for you, but you can still have a fabulous wedding if it doesn't.

I had a client who chose a non-wedding wedding dress....you don't have to have a traditional dress...I thought this was lovely...
