Any ideas on how to ask a friend to do a reading?

Mrs. in May, on April 10, 2015 at 9:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

I want to ask my friend to do a reading during our ceremony. I would like to ask her in person but I wont see her until much closer to the wedding and I want to ask before them. Does any one have a cute way to ask? It doesn't have to be like a big gift or like a BM proposal, just something nice.

I am horribly awkward with things like this, but interested to see other's comments. I asked my usher by saying, "Hey will you help make sure none of the old ladies fall down the aisle?" Of course he knows my humor so he laughed, but still.

I personally think the whole "proposal" to people in your wedding (bridesmaids etc) is totally unnecessary and probably never really happened before Pinterest? Just like a super elaborate actual proposal, it's lovely if it's your thing and you want to do it, but I don't think people should expect it, and it's just as special of an honor with a straight-forward question and no fussiness.

I would just call her up and say "you mean a lot to me, and I would be really honored if you would consider doing a reading at my wedding."

I just asked them over Facebook chat, since I wouldn't really see them until closer. Then I could sent a link to the reading too, lol

We asked FH aunt and my aunt to do readings. Honestly FH just emailed his aunt and I sent my aunt a FB message. Both were more than happy. We are giving each a bottle of wine as a thank you at the rehearsal dinner

We're having two readings at our ceremony, so FH and I each get to pick a reader. I asked my choice over beers and a lot of teary "I love you, man"s. I said, "I'd really be honoured if you would do one of the readings at the ceremony. She jumped all over that. Then I asked her how she'd feel if I let her choose the reading. She was absolutely thrilled. BTW, I am thrilled with her choice of reading!

I honestly don't get the whole proposal thing. It seems so staged and overblown, like the whole thing is a production, rather than a celebration with friends and family.

    Maybe send a letter?

Also, Stephanie, you left me crying in the corner by myself!!! Congrats on getting your 5 stars though.

Pick up the phone and call them? Thats what FH and I did. Don't wait until the last minute, they may want to practice it a couple times on their own.
