Any ideas for how to surprise a couple while on their honeymoon?

Rebecca, on August 10, 2015 at 11:41 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16

My roommate of the last three years is marrying my coworker this weekend! I'll have their spare key because after the wedding, I'm going to go pick up his dog from their house (they'll be at a hotel obviously) and bring him home with me to dog-sit for the week.

I was also thinking of having fresh flowers and a card to welcome them back when they get back from their honeymoon the following Saturday... anyone have any other fun or helpful ideas? I don't want something that requires a lot of cleanup since their house is a disaster already with her moving in and not having unpacked yet, plus all the wedding stuff. Maybe some groceries to tide them over a day or two?

Side note - this is my favorite dog to dog-sit. He's an Alaskan malamute and 120 lbs of a giant teddy bear.

You're so sweet! Groceries and flowers would be amazing. I would kill for someone to deliver groceries to me when I get back from vacation!

I would say card and flowers is nice. And maybe make them some sort of comfort food they can throw in the oven when they get home. I wouldn't do groceries but maybe make them a meal you know they like.

    That's really sweet!

Maybe a giftcard for pizza or their favorite delivery? I know our house is a mess and I'm definitely not going to want to cook right after the honeymoon. Actually even right now there's no free counter space to prepare a meal with all our wedding junk everywhere!

That's so sweet! I would say a welcome home banner, a bottle of champagne and maybe a couple of already made meals in the freezer so they can just pop it in the oven and eat?

Groceries is such a good idea! Not very romantic, but I'm sure it will be very appreciated. The worst is when I come home from vacation and have no milk in the fridge to put in my coffee. I would be so excited if someone had milk in the fridge waiting for me when I got home, haha.

I would be on cloud 9 if someone had cooked me a meal and had it in my fridge when I got home! Instead of doing groceries, I would cook something that just needed to be reheated (lasagna or casserole of some sort).

A card and flowers/champagne is obviously adorable too!

You are the best person ever! I would love if we had food when we came back lol. I think a (or a few) pre-made meal, like suggested before, is a good option.

But even just the cards and flowers is a super sweet gesture!

Such a sweet thought! I think all of these are great suggestions. I second @VenetianBride with making sure they have what they need for coffee the next morning. Hate waking up and not having any.

I like FMM's idea: I'm sure they will be exhausted from their honeymoon (vacations are tiring!) and will just want to kick back and relax when they get home. Maybe also have their favorite cd or vinyl on (if you know when they are getting home) to greet them.

Thanks everyone!! I didn't think about having coffee ready, that's imperative for these two! They're great friends - she's always the one to plan birthday parties, make sure people have a bachelorette party even if she's not a BM, etc. She deserves to get spoiled a little! And we swap dog-sitting a lot - our dogs love each other, so that's fun.

I like the idea of pre-made meals, plus maybe a gift card to their favorite sub place nearby. And champagne, I hadn't thought of that either!! Thanks for all the ideas!

What a great gift!!! I think flowers and a card are great. If you can cook, maybe prepare a couple meals that they can just heat up and eat. Also, some grocery staples would be awesome for them to come home to. Milk, bread, etc....

P.s. How do I make you my best friend? lol

Since you said their house is a mess, I'd get them a certificate for a one time trip from a maid. That way they can worry about unpacking without worrying about any mess as well.

@FMM's suggestion is perfect. When we moved, cooking was the last thing I wanted to do. I think that is so sweet of you!
