Any good ideas on bridesmaids wearing pants?

Nikki, on September 16, 2010 at 12:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Me and my fiance have been engaged for three years and I am finally breaking down and planning my wedding for next May. We both come from ranching families and want a western wedding in the mountains. All of my bridesmaids also grew up with a cowboy background and although they would wear a dress if I asked them too, they would be more comfortable in pants. I am wearing a dress and would like to keep things somewhat dressy so I need to find a good balance between a nice dressy pants outfit that will fit with a cowboy lifestyle. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Would you think about dresses with cowboy boots?

I looked at your inspiration board and I don't think that those pics really say "cowgirl" to me. I love the idea of boots with a sun dress. I googled "bridesmaids wearing cowboy boots" under the images tab and there are some great ideas there. One that stood out to me was a bridal party in the woods. The BMs were in a cornflower blue sundress, very cute and actually wearable again!

If the issue is that the BMs really don't feel comfortable in dresses, I don't think adding boots is going to help. A lot of people here have had BMs who wore pantsuits, though, and Shannon C. is planning to wear a nice pants suit in her wedding. You can either have something made, or you might look into MOB wear and see if you can find something that isn't too "matronly." There are definitely some nice MOB pantsuits.

I photographed a Cowboy/Jack Daniels themed wedding a couple of years back. The girls each had a glittery top and jeans. You will notice that the bride isn't even wearing an actual dress - only a clip on train.

I being from Texas, growing up in a ranching family, FH ropes.. etc.. I am wearing my dress boots with my dress for pics.. I wouldn't wear a dress pant suit. What about guachos? I wear Cruel Girl guachos with my boots when I go out a lot..

I like the dresses.. the white ones Lauren posted in the mid of the blue & black.. because they're a bit longer.. I personally don't dig the cowboy boots and shorts or short dresses, it offends me. That's not what they're made for. But that's a whole other story in itself. But boots with those dresses like Lauren posted or blue jean capris wouldn't look bad.. Its all depending on how dressy you want it to be.

Ok so this is wierd, but i totally wear shorts or pants under a skirt or dress all the time. it just makes me feel more comfortable. just ask that their pants be like... leggings? so u dont see lumbs and bumps from pockets or what have you. and no one will even know! Smiley smile

Oh and as someone who hates wearing dresses, i can honestly say i would rather be in a dress at a wedding than pants, as i would feel out of place. even though pants may be comfortable, it's for a wedding, not to hang out. i would say focus more on the look u want for your wedding.

Thank you everyone for your posts. I have thought about gaucho pants since I am really not a dress and boots kind of girl but have also thought my bridesmaids could wear their nice blue jeans with a blue blouse, concho belt, silver jewelry and boots. I think it would be dressy enough for me and keep my bridesmaids comfortable.

Personally, I think it's gonna look odd if you're wearing a formal gown and your girls are in pantsuits. However, they do make those pants that look like skirts. If it's about comfort...this may be an option?

I guess it really depends on your venue...the type of wedding you're having..what will the atmosphere be...formal, semi-formal, casual, etc. I see it hasn't been mentioned on here really. Because for my wedding...jeans or pansuits would look out of place because everything else will be formal. And if you're thinking of jeans..I'm guessing your wedding atmosphere will be more of a casual wedding..so jeans will go well.

It is going to be more causual. I will be wearing a wedding dress but mostly everyone invited will be in pants and boots. It is an outside wedding in the mountains and my colors are going to be blue and purple with silver. The guys are wearing black pants, white shirts, and black and silver vests. Flowergirls will wear purple dresses with silver and bridesmaids will wear blue with silver. I am trying to keep things fairly low key and cost down since we are paying for most of it and want it to be cowboy oriented since that is our backgrounds. But would like to have some of the traditional wedding as well.
