Any brides with Rose Gold rings? - i have a question

Angel_D, on September 6, 2015 at 2:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

My ring and band set are rose gold. I have had my ring since February --- a few months after i took it in for cleaning and the jeweler pointed out that there we some tarnish marks on it.

I never take my ring of to do anything, so it is exposed to everything pretty much.

Jeweler asked me to bring in the ring to get re dipped and get those stains away- he says the gold is mixed with copper to get that rose color and it can make the ring react to certain chemicals and tarnish. this is soo annoying because how am i supposed to pin point which chemicals are causing a reaction to my ring. it could be a perfume, soap, lotion, anything!

are there any other rose gold brides who have had this issue. what did you do. I love my ring - fh suggested that if the problem continues we may have to change it for a white or yellow gold Smiley sad i dont wanna

Or you could just start taking it off when you do things that might tarnish the ring.

I could but it seems likely i would lose it at some point if i take it off for every single thing I do.

shower n wash dishes i could do without the ring.

I've had my rose gold ring for 9 months, I only take it off when I apply lotion, so my stones don't get smudges. I haven't had any problems so far, but I do wear gloves while I clean because I have sensitive skin anyway.

I think it's going to be hard to pin point ONE thing that tarnishes it when there are a multitude of things that will. I would Google what types of things tarnish copper overall and you should be able to avoid those things from there.

Even with a white gold ring you'll still need/want to have it re-dipped. I send mine off once a year to have it deep cleaned and re-dipped.

I have a white gold ring and still get mine recoated once a year. I never take it off unless I'm showering or using bleach.... bleach made it look horrible once. I would recommend just taking it off when you use harsh chemicals.... lotions shouldn't cause a reaction. Maybe try googling it? *shoulder shrug*

I have rose gold. I knew before I got it that it had copper to get the color, and therefore would be more likely to need to be dipped. But it's just sooo pretty :-D

ETA: I forgot to answer the actual post: I take mine off to clean the house. Not simple stuff like washing dishes. But any chemicals for cleaning bathrooms and stuff, I have always taken off my jewelry for that. Just put it in the box and you won't lose it! I wouldn't worry about lotions and handsoap, perfume. It's harsh chemicals that can react with metals.

I have rose gold and a morganite stone. I take it off often. Keep a ring dish near your sink or in your bedroom to keep your ring in good shape. I haven't had any issues yet!

Why not ask the jeweller what types of things are likely to tarnish the rose gold? I have white gold and take it off to shower and lotion and such. Also, I am a nurse in the nicu and we are very strict about biting below the elbows so 4/9 days I don't wear it... Because of this I made a pottery piece for beside my bed to keep it in. As soon as I take it off for anything it goes there so I know I won't misplace it!

I have a rose gold ring and I never wear it doing anything with chemicals. The only time it get something on it is when Inwash my hands. I take it off to shower, clean, and even when I do my hair.

If your ring is solid rose gold (and not just plated) it should never need to be dipped. Here is some information I found about rose gold this morning when I was doing some research:http://www.everything-wedding-rings.com/rose-gold-engagement-rings.html

I have white gold, and my ring has been redipped 2x already. I am a nurse and use alcohol hand sanitizer many times in a day, It eats away at the rhodium coating on the ring. Glad we got the warranty policy on all the rings ( i have 3 soldered into 1)

I've been considering getting rose gold bands on either side of my white gold engagement ring. I knew rose gold might take some more care but this post worries me a bit. The setting for my engagement ring is FH's grandmother's (he bought a new center stone for it) and it's white gold. As far as I know in its 50+ year life it's never been re-dipped. I never take it off and I know his grandmother never did either. I don't want to have to worry about tarnishing rose gold bands.

I have a rose gold ring as well. I take it off to shower, wash dishes, clean, and when I go swimming. I haven't had any issues so far.
