Any Brides lose weight after buying their dress?

<3 Future Mrs Wells <3, on March 18, 2011 at 9:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I am having some serious concerns. I bought my dress and at the time it was a little tight. Since then I have lost 25lbs. When I tried my dress on in February (after losing 15lbs) It fit good except in the halter. I am just having some serious concerns that I will lose too much and they wont able to alter it to fit....Then I have my Mom telling me "why don't we just buy you a new dress" Like this is just some dress we can walk into the store and pick out. I talked to Davids Bridal about it and they do not think it will be a problem I made an appointment for June 10th for my 1st fitting...Does anyone know how much alterations cost at Davids Bridal? Do you think I should just find a new dress "off the rack"? HELP!!!!!

Dont fret about that stuff. you can ALWAYS alter a dress down a size. don't stress Smiley smile thats the point of alterations Smiley laugh Do not go to David's bridal for alterations, they will rip you off! Try to find a company that strictly does tailoring/alterations, they won't overcharge you as DB's will..

I was going to say the same, it is ALWAYS easier to downsize a dress and will still look great, obviously you choose the dress for a reason so stick with that dress, that said just remember the dress will probably look different if you continue to loose weight (congrats on that btw!) but you may not look the same you did when you first got it.

I ordered my dress in November and since then have lost 20 lbs. I have been told that taking a dress in is not a problem, so I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to find a great seamstress when the time comes Smiley smile

I agree with the others. taking in is rarely a problem. But I would go to a proper seamstress for the alterations. Congrats on the weight loss btw.

I have been losing weight too. I would say try it on a few times between now and then. At my DB they are able to take any unaltered dress and exchange it for a different size pretty quickly. I also had completely custom sleeves added to my dress and a hem and it cost around $160.

I had my dress altered down about 4 sizes after losing a bunch of weight. It was not a problem at all!

Find a local seamstress, DB will rip you off!

Thanks ladies I told my Mom I really want to keep my dress so she is going to find a local seamstress like you all suggested to do the alterations!

I would recommend finding a local seamstress to do your alterations. DB alteration prices are very pricey.

If this is the dress you are meant to wear....get it altered.

I agree with Analy---DB prices for alterations are ridiculous! I just had my dress taken in and hemmed and it cost me over $400! Go somewhere else to get it done and I think it'll work great for you!
