Any body not doing Save the Date?

RusticChick, on October 11, 2014 at 5:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 33

At this point we have decided to not do save the date. But some times I feel as though I am the only bride not doing them.

Any body else decide to not do save the dates?

We're not doing them for all our guests just the 9 who live out of state and the 11 who live >100 miles away.

Nope. Didn't realize people did that before I came here.

I did not want to but since it was a DW I felt I needed to so I sent an email card save the date thru paperless post.

I did a save the date on "smilebox" and posted it on my facebook. We are having a destination wedding, so it was more to tell everyone.

We did them but many guests were confused and thought they were the invites.

Nope not doing them. I think they are a waste of money for most part. I did Facebook message a lot of family and some friends for addresses. I included the date in those messages.

I am doing them but only because 50% of my guests are coming from overseas! and I need to let them know the date ASAP, but I'm not ready to send actual invites yet.

Didn't do one. I set up a website (through WeddingWire) and sent that over to folks as a Save the date and said that this was the only reminder until the invites go out. We are also doing a DW and the feedback has been only okay. Mainly, like everything else, people don't effing read so details were kind of lost. Still though, our parents and my MoH are pretty well sorted. Everyone else is probably waiting until they get their taxes in or they're not going Smiley smile

Nope. They aren't as common of a thing here (maybe in England but certainly not that well known about up here) so we're saving ourselves the printing and postage costs.

For those needing to book holidays well in advance due to their professions, we'll call them in plenty of time.

I briefly thought about it, but no one I knew wanted them. so I just sent out some reminders and updates by email and facebook and all that.

figured give them what will work!

I'm a big dear abby reader- my guilty pleasure. I've seen letters by some angry people very insulted that they got announcements that a couple was getting married, along with the date, but no info on where the wedding was and what time.

they thought they were just being told about the wedding but not invited.

so I decided to just leave it alone.

people seemed to respond quickly to the electronic method anyway.

We didn't do them either. Only have a six month engagement, and it's cheaper to spread news by word of mouth. Definitely wasn't in our budget to do stds.

Not doing them. Having my date on engagement pics and putting them on fb. I think it's a good idea if you have the extra money but I'd rather spend mine somewhere else lll

They weren't a thing (as far as I know) when I got married 16 years ago. Call me uncouth, but they seem like a waste of money to me. Not to mention the people who spilt up in the interim, and then the marrying couple is stuck thinking, "Uh-oh, etiquette says I have to invite everyone who got a save the date, but really we're better friends with X than we are with Y...." Skip em.

To me they are kind of a waste of money (and probably paper). I feel like facebook is enough of an announcement and the internet in general is a pretty powerful tool for giving people updates on things, whether they like it or not. There are plenty of options for free wedding websites where people can keep track of your details. We just did invitations around 2 months in advance, which is plenty. And the people who are closest have most likely asked you about your date anyway.

I'm thinking of doing them but we're tucking them into our Christmas cards so we're only paying postage once!

Edit: a lot of our guests are from out of town so they need to know to make travel arrangements. I also know that some of our guests travel a lot for work but can arrange their own schedules to a point so this way they can plan to not be traveling, or tack on our wedding to an existing trip, if needed.
