Another venue is shutting down!

Precious, on February 1, 2015 at 12:18 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

Iowa venue suddenly closes.

I was in this same situation last week. I thank God I was able to negotiate with the venue and already found a new venue. I hope she stands her ground.

And this, my friends, is why everyone needs wedding insurance. It's not that expensive; ditch the favors and buy it instead.

@Ceila when would one buy wedding insurance? I thought we didn't have to until the wedding day was closer.

@Precious, I'm glad your situation worked out!

@Celia, any recommendations on who to go with for wedding insurance? My venue requires us to have it, so I'm going to be looking into it soon!

@Happy in Hawaii I just looked up reviews and got 3 quotes from $350 to $550 for what I'd be worried about possibly happening. I have no idea what I'm doing so I think FH and I are going to have to call and talk to someone at each one of these http://www.reviews.com/wedding-insurance/

There are a couple of types of wedding insurance. There's insurance for stuff like this--the venue closes, and then there's insurance to cover you in case someone injures themselves at the venue or breaks something very expensive. venues who require insurance want the latter. The former is for bad weather, venues closing, if some kind of accident prevents you from going through with everything...and you can get independent policies or riders on your home/renters insurance.

For the record, I actually didn't do wedding insurance even though I was really worried about the weather. Insurance wouldn't have covered my guests' plane tickets which was my major fear regarding the weather.

I recommend www.wedsafe.com and www.wedsure.com. Alexis, I don't know how far out you can book it, but both sites let you customize the coverage according to what you want to cover and the amount of dollars you're investing in the day.

Sometimes vendors are criminals (as in REBAR) but sometimes, they are just victims of fate; hurricanes, fires, etc. Even those with the best intentions can run their businesses badly (the business part of their business is often not their strong suit.....) They find themselves with no course of action but bankruptcy, often with your deposits used as a last ditch effort to save a sinking ship; sometimes a beautiful sinking ship, but half underwater just the same....

I have no personal interest in anyone buying insurance, but planning and paying for a wedding, (NOT THE MARRIAGE LOL) is a giant financial and emotional investment, no matter how much the $$$. If you can afford to lose all or some of it, great, but most people cannot.

I think WedSafe gave us the lowest price for what we would be concerned about (venue closing, vendors shutting down or flaking, and photographer flaking) I'll be calling them on my lunch break Monday. If I get a chance to take a lunch break lol

I had to get the venue insurance for my wedding ceremony venue, I added the other kind on for like $250-300 total. I did my homework on vendors also, Hoping they are all still there in 47 days!

We got wedding insurance through the providers of our renters insurance. It covered if anything happened with a vendor or the venue. We also tacked on an event license so we could provide our own alcohol (which saved us a ton of money). We paid $350 total.

I'm getting wedding insurance since I had an issue with a venue shutting down as well. We're in Canada so we are going with WedEnsure and we can sign up as far as 12 months out. They recommend that you get it as soon as you put a deposit on a venue.

Most of time you can also get wedding insurance from your own insurance companies as well. I know State Farm had offered a couple a rider policy for the wedding insurance, and it was only $55 for them. I would say the average cost would vary by region, and the amount needing to be covered.

I highly recommend wedding insurance. For events with alcohol on-site, we require the couple to get an insurance rider. This is more for their own protection, than it is for our venue's protection. It is something important to think about.

I remember a story from last summer, the wedding got cancelled because of a tornado in the area. The venue cancelled the wedding and all other events that day due to hazard and dangerous wedding conditions. I think it was in Nebraska, or Oklahoma, though I am not sure.

What Celia Milton said- and I do believe this is the first time I've ever said that Smiley winking get insurance and skip the favors.

I hope you find something that works out!

btw- no offense to celia personally, we just never agreed on anything because we always had different perspectives. everyone's different.

Yeah...based on the reviews on Yelp, I never would have booked a wedding there in the first place - the bad ones go all the way back to 2011! But I digress. I feel bad for the couples scrambling to find a new place.

I will also be looking at insurance tomorrow!
