Another budget story 🤦‍♀️

Monique, on September 14, 2019 at 4:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
Those of you who have seen my budget posts know I calculate things on a regular basis due to my anxiety over everything related to funds. Well today has been a rollercoaster of emotions. I have just spent about an hour working on our budget. First I calculated everything based on where we were back in August and found that we were set to now be way over budget to the point of we could not buy anything else or add to the debt. However, it didn’t make sense because this entire year we have been planning we have been set to be under budget by about 2000$. After a mini freak out and talking with my fiancé on how disappointed I was that we were over I decided to double check everything. After double checking all prices, what has been paid so far, and what still needs to be paid for wedding and honeymoon I recalculated with what we have and will be adding in the last few months until December. As it turns out some things I was calculating extra or double for. 🤦‍♀️ I had not annotated that we made a second payment to the venue or that when I originally began calculating things i included the damage deposit and coordinator costs as what was left for the venue. Among some other things. I think once I am finally married I will be happy to be rid of this budget. 🤣 it is such a relief to know we are still good.

I am the "budget master" in my house. I've done this multiple times and I freak out every time. 28 days I wont have to worry anymore. Glad you figured it out.

I’ve obsessed over our budget; calculated and recalculated who know how many times. I’ve found a few mistakes that were in our favor so our overall cost reduced. We are just over a year out and have tried to not look at the spreadsheet and I’m doing pretty good. Try not to look at it so much because the more you do the more it looks
right and you may overlook something. Try keeping a note book or notes in your phone to add/change and do it periodically so your seeing everything fresh on occasion. Good luck!

We went over budget so much! 🤦‍♀️ Mostly by choice and a few mistakes. A $500 mistake I made was at our wedding! We enjoyed a mini-moon at the resort where we got married. It was a DW, crazy DIY, my hubby was also sick. Everything turned out amazing but we were exhausted. My hubby spend 1st day of mini-moon in bed. Then we enjoyed a few days of light outings. On our last day out the hotel called at 3 pm and asked if we were checking out. What?! I thought that was our last night but it was checkout day! My hubby was too sick and we were way too tired to drive 8-9 hours home! They graciously let us stay an extra night at the weekday rate but we scrambled to pack in 20 min so they could move us to a non-suite room. Boom. There was $500 I didn’t expect. But we enjoyed it anyway.

Im also the budget master for us. I tell him how much to give me each month and I pay deposits or do shopping for things for the wedding. A couple items I put on my credit card, but I always make sure I pay them extra every month. I constantly go over our budget and checklist...and I have 391 days! 😧😂

Budget master here too! The stress is real. I get completely upset if the price is higher than my estimate because I’ve done so SO much research. This wedding feels like a second job lol

Oh no! I’m glad you enjoyed it though. I have been making a few I’ll just buy this thing for 20-50$ no big deal. My fh pointed out today that it adds up so quickly ☹️

We have two months left. I have looked at it habitually every month to make sure. You are right that’s where my mistake ended up being with the extra charges added that weren’t really there. I recalculated and I think I got It. 🤞

OMG, it sure does. I budgeted about $500 for props/decor for our DW & local reception... we spent over $3K!!!! That was mostly hubby's fault. He didn't keep track of supplies... he continued to spend $5-$20 on so many items. I cried when he calculated the costs AFTER our wedding. Smiley cry

I have been in charge of everything planning and budget related for us. I just tell him about a vendor I found, we look at it together, decide together and have even decided to cut costs by not having a caterer as his family (Parents & Grandparents) are awesome cooks so we are having them pay for and cook the food. We also aren't having a traditional wedding cake. We decided to go with nothing bundt cakes (2 tier red velvet bundt cake) and do the little assorted flavor bundtinis (small cupcake like version of the regular bundt cakes). That saves money and then my parents are paying for the beach house, invitations/save the dates and DIY decorations. We are responsible for everything else so really not bad. I did end up splurging on a photographer so that's our only big cost. I have a wedding planning binder I keep everything wedding related together so I know how much we need to pay for certain things/how much they cost. I also use the budget calculator on here to keep track of things.

I have paper lists over the budget all over the house. We have gone over the budget so much and it was all my fault for trying to DIY things hating them and then just paying the full price plus the DIY project cost. We ended up getting a florist and videographer last min.
