Annoyed with bridesmaids

Amina, on September 19, 2019 at 7:48 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23
Currently less than 4 months out from the big day and not one of my bridesmaids have ordered their dresses. We’re ordering from Azazie and a lot of people on here have said they’ve ordered close to the date and we’re okay but I’m getting nervous. One girl still hasn’t joined the showroom and a few keep asking about the info for the dress like where to get it. My FH’s cousins gf
, who also lives with us over a year during the engagement still thinks she can just walk into a store and buy the dress. I’ve given them constant reminders since May and I’m getting really frustrated that these “adults” can handle accomplishing one simple task. If they don’t have a dress I’m not about to be running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off trying to figure out a back up plan because they couldn’t handle one simple thing. I’ll be really disappointed but they would just have to come as guests. Anyone else experience this or have any advice??

Oh no. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this, they are supposed to be helping and supporting you during planning not causing you more stress!!!

i would send out a message “this is my last time reaching out, I need your dresses ordered by ____ date, send me confirmation once it is done. Thank you”

Sadly I’ve done that at least 2x already and still no one ordered. I keep pushing the deadline back and still nothing.

My wedding is in two months. We're also ordering from Azazie. One of our bridesmaids ordered her dress yesterday and the expected delivery is October 16-21. We still have one more to order and I'm not at all concerned because we still have plenty of time. Alterations for bridesmaids dresses typically aren't that extensive and don't take much time at all. If your girls don't order by November, maybe start worrying, but for now you're perfectly fine.

I think at this point I would be more worried that the bridesmaids are just blatantly ignoring the bride versus whether or not they have enough time.

I mean, she's been reminding them for 9 months...You can only give the same answer over and over so many times.

We are using Azazie and they suggest ordering all the dresses within 24 hours of each other so that they are made from the same dye lot. I know other people haven't done that and it hasn't been an issue, but you could use that as a motivation point to get them to commit. Tell them we are placing the order on a specific date (make it at least a month from now) and say they HAVE to be ordered on the same day. See if that lights a fire haha.

That doesn't even make sense. They're not likely to be from the same dye lot regardless of when you order them, and dye lots aren't a concern anymore now that colors are mixed by computer.

I understand why you are annoyed - they shouldn’t be ignoring you at all — nvm the dresses

Ah yeah I feel ya aha I was this way with mine. I guess even though it annoyed me, the concern was at least they'd get it on time but I did prefer if they had a buffer period just in case. One of my bridesmaids literally didn't get her dress til three days before my wedding AND she needed it altered.

My MOH waited till nearly the last minute to order off Azazie too, and my bridesmaid is dragging her feet worrying about fit. She waited to long and now the only option is the "ready to ship" and that significantly reduces what she can get. The wedding is in 30 days. I even tried giving her a graceful out in case that's what she was trying for but she wants to be in the wedding. I'm about ready to shake the heck out of her

My MOH sent a reminder text 3 months out, to tell all the girls to order their dresses from Azazie and if they didn't, they wouldn't arrive in time for the wedding. After she sent the 1 group text, I left it in their hands since they are grown ups.

Daughter's Azazie BMs' dresses all arrived -- to addresses in 5 different states -- exactly 4 weeks from the date they ordered them. Four of the five did custom sizing and needed only minimal, if any, alterations. I agree it might do you good to stop "reminding" them. They are adults, they certainly received at least one of your many messages with the info. Do yourself a favor and spend your energy on something you can control. They will likely have their dresses for the wedding, and if they do not, they can be guests. Unless you're going to order and pay for the dresses yourself, there's nothing more you can do. Good luck!

I can completely understand your frustration because your situation would completely freak me out... give them a new timeline maybe 45 days before the wedding after that send them an invitation to RSVP as a guest... but I been the bride from hell soooo i dont know about my own advice 😂 and I got a whole 7 months to go 😈

The usual time to order bridesmaid dresses is at 4 months to 3 months out from the wedding. This is so dresses that fit do not need extensive alterations due to major changes in size, and for some people as little as a 15 pound size change is 2 sizes. A $1000 wedding dress, people may spend money to alter, a lot. But no one wants to spend $180-$300 to alter a $100-$250 dress. Your bridesmaids will be fine if they order now. I have only had 2 from Azazie, and though there was some variation by where people lived, everyone had theirs between 8 and 10 weeks out. Just hemming, is a 2-5 day alteration, at most. Custom size, no hemming needed. Stop worrying. Lists of brides fight with BM to order early, then BM get angry paying hundreds of dollars to alter the dress. Usually it is best to assume that your ladies are adults, and responsible enough to order on time. The company told us, dresses will be in in 7-10 weeks. What have you been told?

That is only true if natural fibers, now, and Azazie dresses are not made of silk. Polyester dress color is in the petroleum based goo they make into the thread, color determined by computer so all dye lots match. They are not dyed in bathed, have not been for years .

This is a well known sales technique for panicking people (bride) so all people will place their orders with the person who showed them the dress, more commissions. Or get orders from groups, before a few people look around, swatches in hand, and decide an older dress on consignment, worn one time and half price, is exactly a match, so they buy used. In fact, the variations between different fabrics, same dye, can be a lot. But same color, same fabric, is close enough. The cheapest of dresses, acetates and such , look flat and cheap, in part because the dye lot is a single tone. Like a bad wig. Natural fibers, and good imitation silks like human hair, have slight variations in tone that make the color alive. Which also means dresses that are not the same color molecule by molecule, are still a close enough small variety of tones of the same color that they look good side by side. Azazie indirectly tells the truth, elsewhere. If you need to alter a dress to make it larger, because you bought it 6 months in advance and it no longer fits, they will sell you/ send you current fabric, not travel Ed back to the same production factory 24 hours. And it matches. When they no longer have either dresses or fabric, discontinued, they either tell you to buy one used, same color and fabric, and it will match. Or send a dress that was returned Ed, damaged in shipping or whatever, and tell you, cut this up, and use it to make your gown bigger, it will match. A d it does. I have done it with their dresses. I once did specialty work for a few custom gown makers, and alterations, redoing fancy beading, crystals. Got me through school. But now, except for friends, I only make gown alterations for people with spine curvatures, old injuries or birth defects, unexpected pregnancies etc., which means needing extra panels. And a fairly new gownmaker, Azazie's older used dresses made 3 -6 months before, provide material enough, close enough match So much for cut within 24 hours at same place to match dye lots.🤗

Wow, I learned a lot about dye lots from this forum lol. Anyway, one of my bridesmaids ordered her dress from Azazie and it took exactly 4 weeks, which is what others herr have said too. OP, if you have a maid of honor, I suggest delegating to her the task of following up with your girls individually.
