Announcing engagement to family

FH and I haven't been engaged long and we haven't announced it to his family yet. We want to do it in person. What are some cute/fun ways you guys have announced to your family?

We tried calling my parents, but they went to bed early that night. Ha! So we called my brother and his parents and sisters, and I told my parents the next morning. Then it became official because we put it on Facebook. Eye roll.

We called them all after a glass of champagne in the room when we got to the resort/spa we were staying at after he proposed.

We became engaged on Christmas Day, and my mother and one of my Aunts were already in town at another Aunt's house.

I went over there with gloves on (it happened to be warm that day, but they didn't notice) with my mac n' cheese dish. Anyway, after setting it down I told them I had an incident. I told them that I was drinking while I was making the mac 'n cheese, and that when it was time to take it out of the oven, I was so drunk, I forgot to put on the potholders and I suffered severe burns (fyi my mother's a nurse and I hoped she didn't ask me medical questions lol). I told them that babe took me to urgent care, and I have a bunch of gauze on my hands, hence why I'm wearing gloves on this warm day.

I told my mother it's okay for her to pull off the gloves, but be gentle. She started to go for the wrong hand, so I yelled "NO, look at this hand first". She slowly pulls it off and her and my Aunts are standing around me now. Now the glove is off, there's hesitation, then one of my Aunt screams OMG OMG! My mother is like WHAT?! Then I basically hold up my hand in her face and then she screamed too, and we're all crying.

    What a mess lol.

I wasn't doing that for anyone else. It took too much work for me to not to laugh.

Everyone else got a phone call, text, or I just told them in person with no crazy stories.

I mean I called my family right after it happened. FH actually talked to my dad the day before and asked for permission so he already knew it was happening.

We Skyped my parents right away. I'd actually forgotten this, but my parents and brother and sister had started an email chain the next day trying to one-up each other with scenic pictures they had taken (It was Fall, and my family is weird). So I jumped on the email chain and typed something about how I didn't get to take any fall leaf pictures yet, but I hope they like this picture anyway, and attached a pic of my ring. So I guess I announced it in a unique way...

I called people. My family would rather know right away then to wait for me to see them. We live in different states. I would just say "We have an announcement..."

    *phone rings*

"Hey Mom, guess what happened! FH proposed today! I'll text you a picture!"

My father already knew because FH had asked for his blessing. And my brother knew because FH accidentally texted him the text he meant to send to my dad about proposing that weekend.

@Gym- that story is freaking adorable! That's so cute!

He asked for my parents permission, so they knew already. But we basically just told close family, and friends. Then we did an engagement photo shoot, and surprised everyone else by posting one of the pics on fb. I get wanting to wait a bit. We were able to enjoy being engaged for a little while without stress, or a million questions.

We were on vacation when he proposed so I waited until we got back home a few days later to tell my parents in person. His family already knew as they helped him pick my ring.

I had a gorgeous new hall tree built. I called my mom & stepdad over to see it. I had my jewelry bag sitting on it and 2 signs. The first said Dad asked and the second said Mom Said Yes. I was using my hand with my ring on it to point out all the details of the hall tree while my mom stood there with a confused look on her face. She stared at all 3 of the items for about 30 seconds before she looked at my hand. You could see it click. She screamed and grabbed my hand. She started crying saying how happy she was. It was very cute!

All of our immediate families were there when he proposed. As for out of towners I just emailed them. He did it after I gave birth to our daughter so I wasn't up for a phone convo bc of the pain meds and I just included the engagement announcement with our birth announcement.
