Anniversary/reception

Robyn, on March 4, 2021 at 11:37 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3
My husband and I got married last summer. We chose to have a super small ceremony because of covid and because one of my mother had cancer treatments and was very ill. We invited my father and my husband's parents as well but all are out of state. With all of their blessings they said to go ahead as we planned to celebrate with them this summer once everything settled back down.

Now I have a photographer booked and she is located in the same town as my spouse's parents. What should we do this summer? We didnt exchange personal vows just prewritten generic ones. No friends came to the original ceremony.
Should we have a delayed reception this summer? What would you do?

For a renewal of vows, you can do anything. Except you cannot hire an officiant because they will not perform second ceremonies for an already married couple. Have a trusted person good at public speaking. You can have a reception however you choose.

Not everyone wants to go the renewal/party route until further into the future

It's totally up to you Robyn! You could just host a small reception and celebration of your marriage, or you could do a unity ceremony or vow renewal!

Here are two other discussions you should check out where other couples have shared how they're handling a delayed reception:
