Anniversary Dance- Yay or Nay?

Sara, on December 4, 2019 at 11:26 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 22

I love the idea of an Anniversary dance, but am back and forth on actually doing one. What are your thoughts on them?

I LOVE this! My husband's aunt and uncle have been together since they were teenagers (early 60's now) so they always end up winning! It's very sweet and gives guests a chance to have their own sentimental moment on your big day Smiley smile

Ultimately, we decided not to do one at our wedding because my parents are divorced and I was worried about anything that would draw attention to those not married (even though they were totally fine the whole night and that was just my wedding planning overthinking)

I think they’re sweet as long as you know you have a few guests in long marriages. It would have been awkward for us since our families in general are pretty young and both sets of parents are divorced, so we would have had one couple married more than 10 years.

I think they’re really cute. But I didn’t do it because there were so many divorced people at my wedding. I didn’t want to bring attention to people not being married or any pain that may cause them.

I want to do one for my parents (48 years next Dec I believe) but they've already had two songs dedicated to them at previous weddings from my sister's and cousin's wedding last year. Plus my dad's leg isn't that great due to gout and I don't want him to dance too much lol.

I think they're cute as long as you don't have anyone who's recently lost a spouse or a grandparent who would "win" if their spouse was still alive. I think that would be really hurtful and awkward.

This is my fear because we lost my grandma unexpectedly and they would have won. My mom said it would be fun but that it will be difficult on my pap so I’m on the fence.

We did it at our wedding and we, and the guest, loved it! Our winning couple had been married 47 years and our 2nd place couple had been married 46 years! We picked a cute song and the dance itself only lasted a couple of minutes, so it was worth it to us!

Oh man, then I definitely wouldn't do it. Absolutely no one will notice or be disappointed if you don't do it, but you could hurt feelings or at least bring up bad feelings if you do - which i dont' think you want for your wedding day. I would skip it.

We didn't do one because we've had a few divorces in the families and more than our hearts can handle in deaths so we didn't want to make those who have lost their significant others recently feel bad

We did one. His grandparents have been married for 50 years, and they were the winners so it was a really sweet moment. We opted to do this instead of the bouquet toss and I gave husband's grandmother the toss bouquet.

We did one and I feel like everyone loved it.
We lost my grandpa almost a year and a half prior to the wedding. They would have won.
I ran it by my mom. She thought if I didn’t draw attention to her it would be ok. Once my husband and i were “called out” I brought a single red rose over to her and told her i knew if grandpas was here that you’d be out there the longest. It was a really nice moment for us, She was touched that i recognized her, she also had a moment alone to reflect after. I told my photographer and he was able to catch all of it. The pictures are beautiful. Some of my favorites from the night. ❤️ Sorry for the pic overload Anniversary Dance- Yay or Nay? 1Anniversary Dance- Yay or Nay? 2Anniversary Dance- Yay or Nay? 3

We have a LOT of long marriages in our extended family, so it was a very sweet time at daughter and SIL's wedding. There were probably more than 10 couples at 30+ years and four at 40+. The winners would have been a great aunt and uncle married 60 years, but they left early.... The DJ declared a tie between two of daughter's aunts (on different sides of the family) who were both married 43 years. Smiley winking

We were honestly thinking about this too! However, I just found out that my parents (dad and stepmom) are getting divorced and it might draw awkward attention to that which I don’t want.
I do think they are very sweet though! I really like the idea of it. It kinda keeps people out on the dance floor and our older guests some time in the spotlight too.
