An Epilator is my new best friend! (Hair removal)

Pancakes, on October 28, 2014 at 8:49 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

Someone on here asked about shaving/waxing/laser hair removal for the big day. Someone suggested an epilator. I decided to give it a try. It was $30 on Amazon, free shipping, so why not. Well, IT IS AMAZING! I used it on one of my legs on Friday night to try it out, so I didn't get all hairs. But I haven't touched that leg, and shaved the other leg on Saturday. Sunday I already felt a prickle beginning on the shaved leg, and this morning you can notice hair from further away. The leg I used the epilator on is still smooth! There are some hairs left that were too short to be picked up from the first round, but you can't tell unless you are really close. It's basically an electric waxing/tweezing method. It pulls out all of your hair, as if you are waxing. I've never waxed before, but I didn't find this too painful. And I know over time it will be even less noticeable. Just wanted to share that I think it's awesome and it works! And a lot cheaper than razor heads these days!!

I tried on my arm pits because that's my biggest concern of showing stubble on the big day. But I shave those every day so it couldn't grab much. I need to wait for a weekend when I can let my arm hair grow a little more. Lol. But I didn't notice too much of a difference in sensitivity when I did get some out. But I tweeze my eyebrows every week and don't feel a thing (when I first started tweezing FH's somewhat uni he complained it hurt too much. Lol. So apparently I got used to the feeling). I also get Botox for my migraines, so on a quarterly basis I get 31+ shots in my forehead, head, back of the head and sometimes shoulders. So I'm used to the needle feeling, as well.

And on to the personal stuff... I tried it in my personal area, but the hair was too short to grab much. But I got a small area to test the sensitivity. Again, I didn't notice much difference than in the legs. That area is still smooth and I did it on Saturday, as well. I just need to grow it out further to grab them completely.

It says to only use on your legs and nothing else, but I will use it on those three areas Smiley smile

This is the one I used and I like it, though it's the first one I've tried. I don't know what makes them different. But this was reasonably priced and still cheap.

I am definitely no stranger to pain, but holy cow man lol. I did try it on my armpits when I first got it and I said I would rather shave. I've never bothered with my legs because I don't mind shaving them. Don't get me wrong--it's effective and I use it to maintain "other areas" but I feel like I need a piece of leather to bite down on.

Lol. Yeah, it's not the least painful method by any means Smiley smile I mean, it's still pulling out your hair. But I figure the arm pits are such a small area that the benefit outweighs the consequence. I'm really lazy sometimes, especially in the morning. If I can cut minutes off that time in the shower, I will Smiley smile I figured for $30 it was worth a try because I would have eventually tried waxing one day, anyways. I also bought Veet because I've heard good things, but I think I will return it since I like this better.

Is it better than getting a Brazilian?

It's either this or that for me. I loathe shaving my legs, so I... Just.. Don't?

How much does laser removal run? I've heard all about it except for the pricing.

Just googled the Diva Cup... *balled up in corner, rocking back and forth*

I've never gotten a Brazilian before so I can't speak for that. I don't know exactly how much laser hair removal runs but I hear you have to go very often for up to a year before it fully works and it's several hundred or low thousands. But I could be wrong because I've never been to a center before. I've just seen Groupons or Living Social deals where it's marked down to a few hundred. But I know those original prices are usually inflated to look like a better deal, because laser salons around here are always offering discounts.

Miss to Mrs - It sounds like a similar thing to what you used. I mean you definitely feel it, but it didn't bother me. The reviews show it does bother some, though. I did it in smaller breaks at first so I didn't do it all in 5 minutes and want to saw my leg off Smiley smile My leg was a little red but they were fine after a few hours and I didn't apply lotion (it says if you apply a lotion with alcohol in it, it will make the pain and redness worse). I don't want to guarantee people won't feel anything because everyone feels everything differently. But I'm just saying from my perspective, I like it and don't think the pain is that bad.

I've heard laser is like 2k-ish for legs and you have to go in about 6 times. You still get hair, but it's very fine.

I've done a brazilian and I prefer it to an epilator, using an epi for maintenance. The brazilian, someone ELSE is inflicting the pain and I can do it. I've even done my own wax down there and I have to give myself a pep talk before pulling each strip lol.

I love mine. I have had it a few years because I was breaking out in a rash on my underarms after shaving and using deoderant. Now it's much better.

I also bought an at home light pulser which I use when i have time.

I am doing laser on my face, it is cost $1600 for a year of treatments. The more surface the more expensive.

Just googled the "EpiLady" and that thing looks like a machine that eats metal. Lol. This one is probably smoother since it is just moving tweezers, basically. I don't know. I'm shocked I'm one of the few who doesn't seem to think the epilator doesn't hurt much. But as I said, I get Botox every 3 months and have since I was 21. So I've learned to take pain for 30 minutes to have a better daily life Smiley smile I think going in short bursts is what helps to start off. I read reviews so I prepared myself for the fact that it will hurt some. But people said it's better than waxing because then you don't have wax pulling off some of your skin, too!

That's what I'm saying, Andi. I'm sure waxing is $30 or more each time. So I thought $30 wasn't a bad amount to give it a try. It was $40 when I was deciding, but then it went down to $30 after 2 days on my wish list Smiley smile So instead of paying $30 every month (or however often you wax), you can try this and if it works out, you just pay $30 once and never again. There is no replacement heads because it is not a blade. Someone in the comments suggested taking ibuprofen or something slightly before to minimize pain and redness. I didn't and I lived to tell about it. But I know everyone is different.

Kathleen, it was horrendous. LOL!! This was the one I had. The spaces in the coil would "catch" the hairs and rip 'em out as it vibrated over your skin. Oy!!
