Hi there! My name is Aidan and I'm getting married to the most amazing man next year. Our wedding ceremony is taking place on my grandparent's property, in the field and near their pond with the hills in the background. We're looking to keep the event on the smaller end (120 people max) and somewhat casual, and to have our reception at the nearby church where we are both part of the worship team. Is a dish-to-pass reception a little too cheap? We're good friends with most of our already-known guests and we're positive that they wouldn't mind, but I thought I'd ask around for other opinions. Hi Aidan!

Congratulations!! When looking for catering, BBQ and Italian food are generally the cheapest options! Some chains (like Piada, Olive Garden, Dickey’s, Old Carolina, etc) have catering menus online if you wanted to compare! For my mini ceremony for immediate family, we did Mission BBQ and got a great deal! (We’re having our reception next year at a catering hall for reference!)
    Good luck!

Your guests should not be asked to bring anything. Also, having guests cook & bring food brings in a sanitation issue at any time, but especially during Covid. I would strongly suggest not doing this!

Yes, thanks Meghan. After much advice and caution, I've resolved not to go through with this idea. A catered event is the safer way to go.

In addition to the good advice from pp, keep in mind you do not have to invite every person in your extended family, if your FH hasn’t seen his great aunt’s cousin’s niece since he was 5, she does not need an invite. A good rule of thumb is did you speak to this person in the last year? If not, cut them from the guest list.

Hi, thought it over, might be hard to coordinate so that you don’t have to many baked beans , oops, although I love them! You could always provide the entree , and have others , the better cooks, lol, bring the sides. Or if you have a great friend with wonderful talent see if they will do the honors. Maybe keep it more simple but tasteful sides. Another thing maybe you could say that in Lieu of a formal meal your donating to a homeless shelter. It the meantime, my daughter wants the work!
