FH brought home a locked security box from his parents' house. He needed to drill it open because his dad couldn't remember the combination. Inside he found his parents' marriage certificate from 1964 and started laughing as he handed it to me. We both think it's very funny and kept the certificate...

I'm much older than his mom was at her wedding, what would I be called?

@AllieCat - since men had choices (they did not have to get married, they were their own person) they were bachelors from the time they were of marriageable age until they either got married or died

It's just nice to not have to deal with that crap anymore lol - especially since I was a spinster too lol

@Janel--I googled it too. It was a British thing until they weren't sure how to label two women or men marrying each other. I gather things changed somewhat when Hong Kong came back under Chinese control, although they may not have bothered to change this.

I am still trying to figure out the circumstances of the marriage...FH never asked his parents and I am curious. FFIL moved to NYC when he was 16 and finished high school here, then he was in the Army for a few years. His mom was from China. I don't know how they ended up together and why the wedding was in Hong Kong. I try exploring gently with FFIL but I get long circuitous stories that never get to the point.
